Rather than solar blinds, you might want to consider solar film that's applied directly to the glass. You can choose high tint or barely any tint -- and it cuts up to 99% of ultraviolet rays (which fade rugs, upholstery, and damage furniture) and up to 78% of infrared rays (which heat up the apartment).

I used MetroSolar out of Long Island. (www.metrosolar.com)

They use 3M window film (http://solutions.3m.com/wps/portal/3M/en_US/WF/3MWindowFilms/Solutions/Residential/?PC_7_RJH9U5230GE3E02LECFTDQGGG7_nid=N0R0HVF41JbeT4DCJBL6BVgl)

RE2009, one source that I utilize quite often is The Franklin Report. They sell this book in local bookshops and it's also at franklinreport.com. They list several area electricians and offer reviews of those companies. Unfortunately, I've always lived in rental buildings so I can't offer a personal reference. I did have a consultation with a window treatment designer that I found in this book and she was very very good, but too pricy for me. Hopefully, this book can be a starting point for you.

Used a place called DFB for my solar shades (John Dobbs was the contact). We had a lutron system, a bit of complexity to the work we needed. They did a credible job, we used them afterwards for some curtains as well. Have to stay on top of them, but I would assume thats true of everyone, and they did a good job. Our architect had recommended them to us.

72nd bet Brodway and Columbus, north side, there is a place where a couple of friends got their solar blinds done and they were happy with the service.

I used the shade store for the solar shades. They have 3 different light penetration levels - 10%, 5%, & 3%. I recommend the 3%.
