Discussion about
I'm planning to renovate my kitchen, and would like to move the dishwasher from a tight corner where it presently is to an under the sink model. I know these dishwashers have less space, and I know a special sink will have to used with it. A contractor told me the sink would be very shallow. Does anyone have an under the sink d/w and if so, are you comfortable with the depth of the sink?

Shallow sinks are so bad. You will be doing your dishes and pots and pans in your bathtub!

NYC apartment kitchen are quite small. I just renovated my kitchen and it is lovely. I scaled down my appliances (20" oven / 20" dishwasher / 24" wide fridge) and you will be amazed at the space you will find.

Another countertop space saver....A smaller sink. Not shallow just smaller. I have a kohler undermount sink about 15" x 16" but very deep @ 9.5" and I can wash my biggest dutch oven pot without any splashes onto the countertop.

The small kitchen now seems balanced with the proper-sized appliances and sink and operates fine for a one or two persons household.

Good luck with your renovations.

thanks for your reply. Since I'm just one person I tend to wash dishes, pots and pans myself and not use the d/w much anyway, I see that a shallow sink isn't for me.

Glad you're happy with your new kitchen, it sounds great.

I'm generally one person too. You'd be suprised how easy it is to get used to not washing dishes. I love using the dishwasher. As long as you have utensils and plates for 8, you can happily live with a dishwasher. I usually run it every three to four days, once it is filled.

Best of luck with your kitchen!!

you can go with the kitchenaid or fisher&paykel dish drewer... they are 24" wide but only 20" high so they can fit under a regualr sink and still have a place for one drewer...
I have seen it in many customers homes (I work for http://www.divinemoving.com so we see a lot of apt's)
