Discussion about
Rider states the LL took tax breaks while deregulating the apartments..they are waiting for court to decide what he needs to do..hasn't the court decided and should I sign the rider...I called the LL's office and they said if I don't sign the new lease will be void.

Julia, I assume you're asking here because you cannot afford a lawyer to help you. If that's the case, then read the rider carefully and completely. If all it says is that the landlord received tax benefits, and you are acknowledging that by signing this rider, then as a tenant I don't see how this could get you into any trouble. Landlords always receive tax breaks.

khstby2...I can afford a lawyer, I didn't think I needed one for clarification of a rider attached to my lease. The posters on SE have a great deal of knowledge and I simply asked their opinion.

It wouldn't hurt to call the DHCR as well. I have always found them extremely helpful. (212) 480-6700
