Best, as in least expensive? Try The Container Store. Decent looking, and good quality.

There have been a few past discussions. But they were during a different economy ;-)

I've had both CC and Elfa. Right now, I have Elfa because I balked at spending CC-type prices. I am underwhelmed with Elfa. The design is meh, and I am fitting fewer things in the closet. And the drawer-thingeys are ridiculously flimsy. Still, it was less than 1/3 the cost of CC and I can recoup by selling on CL.

Nobody sees the closet but you. These "closet" solutions companies are way over-priced. With Wire shelving and a few butterflies to attach you've really accomplished most of the goals for very little money.

Maybe for "guy" stuff. I have utilitarian wire shelving, and Elfa drawers, and it's not really working for me. I just have more pressing things to deal with than to reconfigure my closet right now.

If you can afford it, go with California Closets. But, it's best to spend big money on the interior areas of your apartment, that can be seen. Elfa is on sale now:30% off, and also 30% off installation.

I've been building my own custom closets for years. Some imagination and a table saw will surpass anything you can buy from these custom closet companies. Don't have a table saw or the expertise? A corner lumber store will cut everything for you, or hire a carpenter/handyman for a day or two. Or take a picture out of the Cal closet brochure and tell him to "build that" only with real wood.

Of course.

Because on a NEW YORK real estate board, we all have a place to keep and use a table saw - right next to the leaf-blower and lawn mower!

You don't have a table saw Matt? I'm surprised and disappointed.

i used easyclosets.com - i've had them for several years and they've held up well. they pre-cut everything, and you put it together ikea style. the only real work you need to do is install the bar that it all hangs on. and it was pretty easy to get in touch with the 'designers' online or on the phone to help you out. not overly expensive.

Try Spacemaster Closets at (212) 382-1533. Much more reasonable than CC.

i would easily pour money into superb closet organization. for one, it would make me oh so happy to open closet doors and see perfection. but also, more efficient closets means a tidier interior space (again, eureka!!). hmm, neuroses can be costly....

It's nice to come here and chat about closets, just like the good old days. It's like taking a break from the real bad R.E. news.

Sometimes, a little bit of closet organizing can help clear your head.. I love to clean my closets. Take what you don't need/wear to The Cancer Care Thrift Shop, get a tax deduction.

Truth, what bad R.E. news do you mean? Is it bad that housing is becoming more affordable?

Well, I own a Condo Not interested in selling, but will be in a year or two. Wish I was a first-time buyer! Would buy now, and --yes -- it is a good thing.
