Discussion about
I find it pretty unbelievable, I mean in this market? May be it's the owner, but still..
What is for you? A free fantasy? Is Valentine's day the only day you can see this place in the week? It sounds ridiculous.
It probably is the owner. As you know, that Monday is also when the school vacation begins so they may have something going on with visitors or traveling themselves and needing to pack. I remember when I began my search in May, I went to see an open house late in the afternoon on Mother's Day after having lunch with my family and I was surprised that there were any open houses late Sunday. This month with the Super Bowl, Valentine's Day and then the last day of the school vacation week, it might be a little slow for open houses until the last Sunday of the month.
you might not have anything better to do on valentine's day....the seller or broker might... no offense...
sorry- that Sunday.
thank you lobster.
I am leaving on Monday for 2 weeks and I was trying to see the apt on Sunday for that reason.
I am now working upstate so it's difficult to see apts during the week.
I was just surprised to see that apparently the broker could not care less, ha basically said to contact him back in two weeks...
Wouldn't blame him I'm guessing the wife, girlfriend, husband or boyfriend said "you are not showing apartments on Valentines Day. I don't care if its a Sunday we're going out for a nice romantic meal"
highend:
Don't worry, it will still be waiting for you when you return
highend, if you can't see this apartment for two weeks, little chance of your finding a different apartment either. I'm baffled as to why you seem to think seller and/or broker should drop everything to show you an apartment on a day that is otherwise inconvenient for one or both of them. Chances are slim any particular prospective purchaser will purchase any particular apartment to begin with. New Yorkers are too inclined to put work ahead of everything else - it's nice to see someone doing the opposite.
How many people see an open house before it's sold, 200?
So, your chances are 1/200 you'll buy this place.
You work upstate, deduct another 300 points, because your money can go so much farther up there.
You're on Street Easy, that's another 500 points, because your offer will be circa 2001 pricing (with all your data) while unit is priced at 2006 pricing. With a 1/1000 chance you'll buy the unit, I would just assume stay home with my sweetie on Valentines Day then entertain you.
Not to mention, if you told the broker you'd be gone for 2 weeks afterward, nothing will happen anyway.
Many buildings restrict days they are being shown. Weekends are off.
A friend had her UWS apartment up for sale, and was out of town Jan.-Feb. The broker would get the keys from the doorman and show the apartment.
She came home unexpectedly, on Valentines Day. She found that the broker was not showing her apartment that day (because of the holiday).
Instead the broker was " showing" a date the apartment. They were using it to celebrate, in a romantic way.
nice
I wanted to see 3 apartments last Sunday and they didn't show - early, BEFORE the Superbowl. All said they don't do weekends (but not because of coop rules) and one told me that for first time viewers, they show Monday-Thursday from 9:00 AM to noon. I feel like shmuck for showing EVERY single time I've been asked!
I asked for an appointment on Saturday but the broker does not work on Saturday, then I asked for Sunday, anytime from 9:00 am.. I don't know if I am going to buy the apartment, but if brokers have the luxury of not showing since there is a small probability that a single client will buy the apartment no wonder that properties are not being sold. And I am going to work upstate for the next 2 months and then back to Manhattan, so don't worry, I make enough $.
Is that broker really representing the seller's best interest?
Rarely...
I've never understood why you can't see apartments on a Saturday, only Sunday. If I were a seller, especially one with children, I would prefer letting people see my apartment on a Saturday instead of during the weekday afternoons when the kids come home from school. On a Saturday, you just go somewhere for a few hours and everyone can see the apartment then. I've only been able to view one apartment on a Saturday and that apartment was owned by a couple with an infant.
