Discussion about
Has anybody applied for this studio? After applying for it and paying the $100 fee, I got a call from the agent telling me that another person applied for it and offering to pay more for it and I was asked if I am interested in offering more also. I said no thinking that the studio will be rented for that person. Few days later, to my surprise, the studio is not only still listed but for the same... [more]

Why don't you offer them $1400 in writing, and if it is still advertised for $1350 with an open house in a week, submit a claim in small claims court for your applications fee in protest. Maybe then you'll get the apt.

It might be a scam. Is it one of those fly-by-night outfits?

Miscommunication is oftentimes the main reason why these things tend to happen.

Potsitivecarry is absolutely right. You should contact the agency's "broker", or the person holding the license to that firm. If it's listed with a larger firm, ask to speak to the office manager to see why you were denied the application. You should ask the broker if they are the "listing agent" also known as the exclusive agent, or if they are simply the "renter's" agent who has been keeping in contact with the exclusive broker. Though there could be many reasons why you did not get the apartment, the least you deserve is an answer for why you're not getting the apartment.

Further, if you're still interested in the unit, looks like they're having an open house there this Saturday. Perhaps the listing agent will be there?
