Has anybody applied for this studio? After applying for it and paying the $100 fee, I got a call from the agent telling me that another person applied for it and offering to pay more for it and I was asked if I am interested in offering more also. I said no thinking that the studio will be rented for that person. Few days later, to my surprise, the studio is not only still listed but for the same price! No body contacted me again. I have a feeling that the purpose of this listing is to get people to pay the $100 application fee and then try to get them to start bidding. My income falls into the 40 times-more-than-the rent requirement and I a have a credit score of above 750. I don't see any reason for not getting this studio unless they are profiting from the $100 application fees and the bidding and they are just using $1350 price as a bait and have no serious plan to rent for that price. Why don't you offer them $1400 in writing, and if it is still advertised for $1350 with an open house in a week, submit a claim in small claims court for your applications fee in protest. Maybe then you'll get the apt.
Who's the broker?
these are obvious scams, i would say....did you find it on craigslist?....
did you see the studio in person?...meet the agent in person?...if so, arrange another meeting , take their photo, and post it and link to it here...and on c list
It might be a scam. Is it one of those fly-by-night outfits?
I would stay far away if I were you. there are tones of places for that price now on the uws and ues
Miscommunication is oftentimes the main reason why these things tend to happen.
Potsitivecarry is absolutely right. You should contact the agency's "broker", or the person holding the license to that firm. If it's listed with a larger firm, ask to speak to the office manager to see why you were denied the application. You should ask the broker if they are the "listing agent" also known as the exclusive agent, or if they are simply the "renter's" agent who has been keeping in contact with the exclusive broker. Though there could be many reasons why you did not get the apartment, the least you deserve is an answer for why you're not getting the apartment.
Further, if you're still interested in the unit, looks like they're having an open house there this Saturday. Perhaps the listing agent will be there?
