Discussion about
Didn't want an offer for free drinks to get lost on an overcrowded thread. So I thought I would start a new one to highlight this very generous offer. streeteasy about 2 hours ago ignore this person report abuse Hey Everyone! We would like to sponsor a StreetEasy Meet Up for Wednesday, March 3 at Wildwood BBQ. 6:30-8:30PM... or till you guys are finished bashing HFSComm. Can't wait to meet you all!

well, you won't be part of the conversation or even group then. no handle or relationship to a handle, no entry. maybe you can come as malraux.

and if you pick a handle, you'll just have to wonder whether we've already met that person.

I don't think it'll be that hard to find it:

Picture a big, brassy upper middle-aged (or "of a certain age") woman. Woman, not lady, not girl, not broad, not gal, woman. As in "woman's sizes". With clown-dyed hair in a "hairdo". With big gaudy gold-tone jewelry (brooches and the like) on a big gaudy novelty-colored dress suit or pants suit or the like. And vaudeville makeup to match, of course. Lives in a scared-white-woman neighborhood like Yorkville or one of those beige areas on the eastern side of midtown.

but, sadly, the husband won't be attending (although this kind of pisses him off, because he has a good time at these events). and i'll be going by AR, not my real name. just don't call me aboutready, it doesn't work now.

AR: You have never met the StreetEasy staff before? That is surprising. Is this the first event they will be attending?

But the good news for me is that apparently you all are allowing the middle aged to attend. I am going to break out a new box of heavy powder, grease my creases, and show up.

W81 is the only SE person I know. Please show up W81. I'm looking forward to meeting all the infamous bloggers and sharing ancient Club 57 stories with alanhart. And just to be certain, when StreetEasy says they are going to "sponsor" this event, they are talking about buying cocktails, right? Not curing SE addictions, right?

your husband sobs because you paid his delinquent taxes when you got married and now he's indentured to you

your daughter brings friends home infrequently because you are likely to have your toilets out of order while waiting for someone else to fix it, and she's otherwise afraid that you'll tell her friends about her sexual and medical history

i knew it had something to do with the sotomayor thread. i knew it, you showed up shortly after that. i'll have to go back and review. sorry that i don't like a judicial process that involves uncalled for intimidation and often scorn.

and not true at all. there are plenty of people i like, many of them on this board. and everyone here who knows me knows how much i love my family. many have met my husband. you constantly point to my "scorn" for my family. prove it.

i was very pro-hilary. when obama won i gave money to him. i supported obama in every way (my husband was an obama supporter, not clinton). when he named his economic team i was horribly worried. people on this board told me i was idiotic to be concerned about the geithner appointment because he had spent his life as a public servant. who the hell is most likely to want to parlay that position into a private job?

but enough. now i know from whence you came. you're entirely misguided. but such is life.

You are so sophisticated. Using words like whence.

And you can't even spell Hillary Clinton's name correctly.

Your scorn for your family extends to revealing embarassing, private, and damaging information about your family. Like that your husband the lawyer consults with someone no more qualified than an astrologer for legal opinions. Or your reveal of your daughter's sexual and medical history.

Your husband isn't showing up for the next streeteasy event.
I wonder why.

streeteasy - you really should get hold of a bottle of Medea vodka. You can program a message in lights that goes around the outside of the bottle - would be great as a beacon on the bar for all the SE faithful.

I had a surprising private conversation with hfscomm1 earlier tonight. We were talking at a disgruntled workers meet-up, and lo and behold with some of the mannerisms, we instantly recognized each other. We had a very fruitful conversation, and we thought that perhaps the persona known as hfscomm1 is merely understood. So, I'll relate what hfscomm1 told me so that we may understand better. Apologies if I didn't get the words exactly right, hfscomm1. But it went something like this:

"The details of my life are quite inconsequential.... Very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a 15-year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize; he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes, he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament... My childhood was typical: summers in Rangoon... luge lessons... In the spring, we'd make meat helmets... When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds — pretty standard, really. At the age of 12, I received my first scribe. At the age of 14, a Zoroastrian named Vilmer ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum — it's breathtaking... I suggest you try it."

absof'nglutely brilliant. my favorite is the "he invented the question mark." although the shorn scrotum must follow closely behind. evil.
nada, are you attending the SE event?

I might. I kinda like not knowing who is who, creating people, faces, and lives to go with the posts. On the other hand, the lure of a free drink speaks very strongly to my cheap bastard ethos.

aboutready, your need to insert "f'n" in the middle of an otherwise normally expressive word seems to be the extent of your brilliance

In some cultures, putting "f'n" in the middle of as many sentences as possible is very important. I have a Scottish friend, and I was practicing my Scottish accent some with him. He said I sounded like a grandpa, and then he told me all I needed to do was to stop using articles ("the") and inject "f'n" as often as possible. Once I started doing that, I was on my way.

BTW, a great article on Scotland's scourge that my friend says is entirely accurate:

Will they be serving Buckie at Wildwood?

And the Scottish are extremely frugal. Read the bit about how people with Scottish backgrounds make up a disproportionate fraction of millionaires in this country despite relatively low incomes relative to people who associate themselves with other ancestries:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/style/longterm/books/chap1/millionairenextdoor.htm

Combination of "f'n" and frugality -- I think AR must have Scottish blood in her.

Yes, aboutready does have Scottish in her blood. Another detail she's revealed. Like her husband's 6'2 195lb frame.

Always too much information from aboutready
