Discussion about
I have looked at 200 E 94 and the Monterey. One Carnegie overpriced. Does anyone have any commentary on living in a Related property? Thank you.
I live in tribeca towers.. we have been in related buildings for the past 7 years and we love it! the service and the amenities are amazing! go for it! you will be very happy
I am a former Related renter and they are on the level of Glendwood in terms of service and ameneties. My only complaint are the finishes in the apartments being somewhat vanilla.
I lived in 200 E 94 for five years; left in 2003. Everything worked, service was fine, no problems with mgmt company, would recommend. I thought of it as a pretty middle of the road rental until I saw a couple of friends' apartments in non-Related buildings close by, which opened my eyes that 200 E 94th was actually pretty high quality as high rise rentals go. With all the new construction the past few years, I'm sure there are new levels of quality/finish available in the market, but I would guess 200 E 94 is still good value for money.
Not sure if you're aware of apartmentratings.com but that can be helpful.
I lived at CP for 5 years. At first it seemed like a great place. I mean, who can resist the tour of the swimming pool and huge private garden. I thought it was funny how much of the tour was building amenities and how little was the actual apartment, but didn't think much of it at the time. After some time (and being an owner/property manager myself) I realized how dinky of renovations they did, how the painters missed tons of spots, how they refused to put screens in the windows even though they tout themselves as a "Luxury building".
You should also be aware that this is an 80/20 building, and 20% of the apartments in the building (or should I say complex, as its really divided into a separate part of the building, which was prohibited after this building) are low income housing.
Also, be sure to document EVERYTHING that they might possibly try and take from your security deposit. I had heard horror stories and thought I was taking precautions, but sure enough they started out by trying to only give me half back. This is building is a cash cow for a corporation who have long ago learned how to squeeze every dollar out of it. Also note that this is a company who applied for federal bailout funds while their CEO was busy buying a 1/2 stake in the Miami Dolphins...
I used to live on the UES (72nd/1St) in a non-related bldg. I moved to Chelsea and have lived in The Tate for a year. Great apartments and great staff. looked at several different apartments. Some here are very spacious and some have extremely large balconies. I have a smaller balcony with a great view of Chelsea Piers and the Hudson River and across to NJ.
Maintc guys are very helpful and have helped me put up art work and hang other items. They are also very responsive when i've needed little things done like changing light bulbs and feeding my cat while I'm away (concierge staff). Good mix of people here, very pet friendly, nice gym and a couple of celebs (actors, models) - so a cool crowd. Bldg is in a nice area, lots of galleries and close to the hip clubs and restaurants.
I'm assuming there is no fee for their rentals, correct?
What kind of discount are they currently offering off of listed rents?
What kind of differences are there between their rental and condo bldgs?
i looked at related buildings in tribeca. they were offering one month free but if you go without a broker you can ask for another month. there are no fees. whether you get more concessions depends on length of time that apt has been on the market.
Thanks for the replies.....I'm finding Related overpriced. Looking at Glenwoods.
Every Related UES bldg is a little different. The Monterey is one month free, owner pays. 200 E 94 St., one month free, One Carnegie, one month free.
I'd look at Rockrose and and Rose too. I've lived in Related, Rockrose and now Rose...Related gets you the same, but smaller apartments with more amenities for what in my mind is an unsubstantiated premium.
That said, people keep moving into their buildings and appear to be happy to pay for it. For me, I didn't feel the need to be paying 10%-20% more just to have the Related concierge and to be able to pay my rent with Amex. But to each his own, I'd just see as many comps as you can and go with what feels right to you for the right price.
Good luck!
Kathryn1, I'm curious where you ended up. I'm in a similar situation- going from owning to renting- and am looking at similar buildings in Carnegie Hill.
Thanks.
