We Need to find my father in law an apt on the upper east side - doorman building for no more than $1750. Need a building that will accept us as guarantors. His wife recently passed away and he wants to move near us but has a very limited income. Are there any senior buildings or anything of that nature? Thank you

In terms of Senior specific housing the Carnegie East Residence on 2nd Avenue and 95-96 is really great. I was hoping to move my mother there before her unfortunate passing. It is however quite expensive. If your father in law needs housing without extended services you should check out the Metropolitan Council (metcouncil.org). They have a bunch of buildings, all brand new or newly renovated, specifically for seniors of limited means. I checked and there are a couple on the UES which claim to have short waiting lists. Worth a check anyway.

leelaura, consider that coops generally only allow subletting for a couple of years, so if you don't think your FiL can / wants to handle the whole search-and-move thing that frequently, you might avoid them.

there should be anywhere between 10-15 applications going in for it, given the price, ameneties, location

While not my area of specialty, you might want to check out 501 East 87th Street. I thought I heard the studios weren't renting there and they had dropped the asking on some to 1900 plus offering concessions (1900 w/1 month concession comes to just under $1,750).
