Discussion about
I am going to start using time lapse video for my listings (with views). This is the first one and I'd love your feedback! Very nice.
is there an interior version...my wife splayed on the couch, etc.?
I thought about that (minus spouse cameos) but logistically speaking it would be hard to keep an owner out of their living room (or any room) for 24 hours. Plus, at that point I would be showcasing less of the view and more of someone's furniture.
Cool. What setup are you using to record the time lapse?
I can't give away all my secrets now, can I? I will say that for this video I was using about $7k worth of gear, although some of it was overkill.
Jim, this is the interior version of woman splayed on couch;

That insanity was recorded over 72 hours and is compressed into 72 minutes.
Wow, that literally is a time lapse of a woman on a couch. You gotta love the internet.
Cool video you shot of the apartment. Also cool you took your husband's and work as a team -- gotta love progressive nyc.
husband's name....i meant to say
I actually thought about somehow mentioning in the video that I work with my *father*. Ultimately, as you have pointed out, I decided on leaving it wildly ambiguous :)
Nicely done, too bad you didn't have any sun.
Very cool and it keeps your attention without wanting to just click away.
Really great!
Thanks guys! The day was overcast unfortunately, but the day to night & night time video with all the lights going on and off is wildly interesting if you watch it a few times (at this point I've probably watched it 50+ times). You can see exactly when people start to go to bed, when people move their cars from the street, traffic freeing up, the direction of the clouds rapidly changing, etc. It's wild stuff.
understood it's difficult, but it would be great to have some interior equivalent so you can see how your lighting changes. for example i have incredible sun in my living room from early morning til about noon.
great idea!
incredible how many brokers are so far behind, barely getting decent photos up. Listings with just exteriors!
Nice to see someone pushing the curve...
No matter what it shows, I think its great for the sale... really calls attention to the fact that there *is* a view, and that has many benefits.
@ somewhereelse: Thanks you for the excellent comment. It made my snowy day!
i like this concept very much, obviously only for views worthy of documentation. only suggestion would be for a visible clockface somewhere in the shot, so I could relate the amount of light to a specific time of the day/night/morning.
Nice job
From a marketing standpoint however, it can't be done on many units. It works because it's unique.
@ birdier: I thought about that and ultimately didn't do it this time around. But I think that would be a good thing to add for the next video.
@ Riversider: How so? If you mean that you wouldn't *want* to do it on all your units, then I completely agree. But logistically speaking I plan on doing a time lapse for every listing with a view I have (at the owner's request and with their permission obviously). I'm glad you liked it!
I only wish I came up with this back when I had listings at 15 CPW & 21 Astor (among others). Watching 24 hours pass over Central Park and Astor Place would have been wild. Maybe I'll get a time lapse at 1CPW at one point though.
Time lapse pricing. 3 months rent lost = $13500, $250 cut over a year = $3000 or $1000 price cut from RSNY Realty in 2007 = $12000
