How about blaming the party and administration actually responsible for what happened - the Republicans and George Bush, and his father and Reagan. How about blaming the party that actually repealed the legislation that regulated banks - the Republicans.

All you Republicans are good at is 1 - passing the blame of the results of your party's actions to others, and 2 - using fear and mis information to get your way.

Julia.... once my father and mother had an argument about money. He was sending money back home to the poor side of his family... my mother couldn't afford clothing for her three kids, and we used to pick up clothing from the local church.

I sided with my dad bc food trumps clothing. In AMERICA, where ppl can make a decent living collecting cans, I think universal health care is NOT too much to ask for. To me the fact I don't have to see poor hungry mothers on the street with a 4yos starving as I walk to my garage to start up my $135K porsche (original list, never would I buy a NEW one)... is reason enough to pay my taxes. I don't like taxes, can't stand the in-efficiencies, can't agree with ALL the spending.. but by a mile, I'll take our system that allowed women to no longer be a man's possession, blks to vote, immigrants to rise based on hard work and abilities... over any other system in the world.

So scream, no more taxes all you want, you one-sided cone head.... when you can be our supreme martian leader... knock yourself out and do as your bidding... or you can vote for Bush again.

MY father taught me correctly that a hero is a person who helps those who are less fortunate... and it's double kick ass if they are in no position to help you or they don't even look like you.

Hate jews that just help jews, muslims that just help muslims, chinese that just help chinese... if it's pure and from the heart, reach out to ppl that can never help you and do it anonymously. I admire Gates for helping Africa... I guess it would be hard to do it anonymously for him, so I give him a pass.

Just my opinion.

It's an immature stance to have an extreme libertarian view.

w67: I too, hate seeing starving women & children on the street. But around here, until the spigot runs dry, we have created a society where it makes more economic sense to be a single parent with 2+ kids on welfare living in projects rather than work for min. wage at Duane Reade (STB Walgreens). I don't like that either.

Extreme libertarianism won't seem immature when the country is broke and the thugs gain more power. The "politicians" will step up their confiscation tactics to help the elderly, the poor and the children. America will spiral into economic bankruptcy and collapse. The debt now is 14 trillion dollars and 80 million baby boomers are expecting their entitlements.

Julialg..... You belong somewhere, just not NYC. Look all around you. We r all of different backgrounds, color and income. Your 'hero' image is 'code' for intolerance. W67: It bothers me that we've created a situation where it is smarter to have kids & collect welfare than to go find a min. wage job. Not saying that either scenario is desirable. That's one of the structural reasons we have high unemployment and simultaneously a never-ending thirst for undocumented labor in the service industries. Another reason is racism/classism. Restaurants and UWS parents would hire illegal workers from the 3rd world over native-born people from less salubrious parts of NYC. Just saying.

What's really funny is that at the very core of Rand's philosophy was an absolute overarching reliance on *reason*, and all these imbeciles spewing little Randian taglines all over the web completely lack the ability to reason.

Julia. I like to think myself an evolving being. Maybe when I die it'll be at my highest evolution, highly doubtful.

You Julia, have never suffered. The childish rants of the individual does not occur in the deepest despair of a human being. To deny our interconnectedness is to deny your own humanity.

Think Julia. Always think. Don't take one philosophy and never evolve. Try them all for size, realize the inevitability of evil in humans if left unchecked. I was you 20 yrs ago. Thought all my accomplisents were mine and mine alone. Thatz complete bullshit. I've been blessed by many many ppl, like my English teacher who took the extra time to teach a new immigrant in 5th grade.

I am intrigued that several people on this board believe that the only reason socialism hasn't worked anywhere it has ever been tried is because the right people haven't been in charge. My question is, at what point do you think there is enough government intrusion in our lives, and at what point to I deserve to keep what I work for. First, I didn't vote for W. and don't support the war in Iraq (though I do support the war in Afghanistan) so I'm not happy with my taxes going there. Second, I think social security should be means tested and once your income is above a certain level your benefits stop once your are paid back what you put into the system, plus the risk free rate of interest earned. The system can't work when you have 2.5 people paying for every recipient. Long story short, there has to be a middle ground where we can meet or are we just a reflection of the insanity that is Washington.

I'm not sure what system we have. It is nott classic capitalism by any standard measure.. Wall Street contributed greatly to Barack Obama's campaign and from what we've seen they've gotten a good return on their money. Post crisis they've avoided any meaningful new regulation, received zero cost financing and gotten to profit from various Gov't programs such as build America bonds, managing Treasury/Fed assets, the list goes on. And Citi got an investor who refuses to comment to congress and declares itself a passive investor.

Socialism? Are you people serious?

You act like any deviation from your utopian free market fantasy world obviously transforms immediately to socialism. You sling that word around without any understanding of what it means. No one in any position of power is proposing anything that resembles socialism as a political or economic order in any conventional sense of the word.

The other is an evil big Socialist government with laws, including building codes. It's called Chile. Haiti had a 7.0 earthquake and 240,000 people died. Chile had an 8.8 earthquake and 700 people died. End of discussion.

"How about blaming the party and administration actually responsible for what happened - the Republicans and George Bush, and his father and Reagan. How about blaming the party that actually repealed the legislation that regulated banks - the Republicans."

I love it!

Perfitz moron tries to cover up that CLINTON REPEALED THE LEGISLATION by pretending he was tied up, and congress has the power. Then, when he finally learns in 2010 that the Democrats have held both houses of congress since 2006, suddenly congress has no power, and its all the president.

Perfitz, we already knew you were a moron, but WOW this is hypocrisy.

The teabaggers gave themselves the name "teabaggers." Even Fox News used the term.

I knew a real socialist once. Very smart guy and honestly believed in what he believed. After the fall of the USSR he had to visit. He came back saying, "I cannot believe how wrong I was".

I went to the USSR in 1988 to Leningrad; you can not believe the misery and the scale of the debacle. It was truly scary. The liberals should kiss the ground of the free market capitalism system.
