Excellent job. I would love if I could find my next apartment through Ruby on Rails. But I have a question for you. Although the big guys rule Manhattan, the listings in Brooklyn are currently divided between the big companies like Corcoran and the like and smaller local operators like Aguayo & Huebner or the like. Are you planning to add them as well? And what's the way you use to import all this data from technologically stupid broker sites?
We're adding brokers as fast as we can, and the idea is to have them all.
And we're currently importing data using a reverse osmosis process by putting a wet cloth in front of a PC monitor with the realtor's web site on it, and waiting for the pressure diferential to push the facts through the cloth and into our laps.
It actually works pretty well... but we tend to short circuit the monitors every now and then with all that standing water.
There are also lots of good neighborhood brokers in Manhattan. Would be great for them and their customers if more people could see those listings!
Thanks for the insight into your process. The problem with the reverse osmosis is that sometimes the contamination and exaggeration come out too. You might want to invest in one of those expensive filter systems for post-processing or soon your system might get clogged up with hyperbole and evasion.
Would you like for us to suggest some good neighborhood brokers?
Of course... any suggestion will be more than welcome
Many thanks to everyone who have referred brokers to StreetEasy.
We will have many more online in the next few days/weeks.
Hey guys. Just set up an account here. I love this site! Very well planned out and great search technology...Im also an agent with Citi-Habitats focusing on sales in Manhattan.
If you have any questions about anything with real estate in Manhattan, I'll do my best to answer you with resources I have access to. if I dont know, I'll pass it around the office.
I'll inquire about getting listings on the site.
I also publish a blog so I'll definately participate in the talk on this site. Im an ex-NASDAQ trader so I take a macro view on NYC sales when I write on my blog urbandigs.com, about the state of the current market and some tips I learned.

Two of my favorite small brokers:
Brooklyn: Developers Group www.thedevelopersgroup.com
Manhattan: Tabak www.tabakistribeca.com
A friend of mine raves about Peter Ashe Realtors. I'm not sure how small they are...
aptsandlofts.com
I am a rookie who only has used one brokerage firm in Brooklyn-AptsandLofts.com. Would definitely use them again. Great experience.
citihabitats? the used-car-salesmen of real estate
Hi. Is there a way that someone doing a "for sale by owner" could get their property listed on your site? I'm selling my apartment and have a web site that provides pictures and details. About a week ago, I clicked on the StreetEasy "Submit Your Site" link and provided the rquested information, but nothing's happened yet. (In the interim, a broker actually got my apartment listed on StreetEasy as their listing. I've asked them to remove it). So, is there a way I can get my apartment listed (without a broker) on StreetEasy? I think it's a great real estate site. Thanks!
StreetEasy doesn't do FSBOs, we list broker represented homes only.
yeh but why dont you do FSBO?
Also why aren't you doing owner listed rentals? your no fee rental section is a joke.

Why don't you list FSBO's? It seems as though listing them would be in line with the charter that you describe in the "About" section. I think it's hard for you to claim to be a "one stop shopping" site for NYC real estate without listing FSBO's. Many owners are beginning to realize that, given the internet, they can do their own marketing -- particularly for the New York City market. This also allows them to pass some of the savings on to the buyer. So, why don't you list these? Do you have plans to do so in the future? Even the New York Times lists FSBO's.
Gosh FSBO sellers are so pushy. Get over it, will you. You already save on Broker Fees now you want free advertising everywhere you go!
I agree. Brokers do more than just show the property. Especially in NYC with board packages, etc.
To these FSBO's: Who do you think pays for the internet -and the staff -and the uploading of photos and decriptions -and to keep things up to the minute current? -And puts their reputation on the line along with a license from The Dept. of State -and answers to The Attorney General?
As an FSBO, I would gladly pay for the privilege of having my listing on this site, just as I do on the NY Times website. As a buyer, I think it is disingenuous of this site to claim to be "one stop shopping" and choose not to list FSBOs as a matter of policy.
Hey, So Aguayo and Hubner redesigned to a more crawl-friendly site http://www.ahbrooklyn.com/ I think this would really help to fill out more in Brownstone Brooklyn
Hi all,
Could our listings be added? They can be found at www.abovegroundrealty.com. We're a licensed broker, and expect to have many more exclusives in the future as well. Right now, we have a wonderful 1.395 sale exclusive in the Gramercy Spire. If you have any questions, feel free to email me at gabe@abovegroundrealty.com. Thanks!
Best,
Gabe

ahbrooklyn.com is my first stop broker site that I check every week. They are the biggest of the smaller firms in Brooklyn, but you don't get lost in the system like I did at elliman and corcoran.
