Discussion about 503 East 13th Street #E2
Appreciate if someone could share your thoughts on the management company, supur of this building? Seems the commercials (resturants) at the 1st floor has been closed for a while? Anyone living inside having any comments on the noise level from the resturants, neighbours and the neighbourhood?
i believe there will be a lot of construction going on for quite some time re: new development on the corner of B and 13th (ugly new construction of glass and steel that completely clashes with the existing buildings). check www.evgrieve.com for details. there are some past discussions here as well i believe. that's all i got.
what about the existing monsters there like 13B and village green and more to come. The area sucks. A few hipster dive spots off of B north of 10th street does not make that a good place to be in the EV. Fucking stuy town is your back yard.
Many thanks! We're quite new to NYC, especially Manhattan. Seems East village is the only area we could afford for buying a 3 bedroom and the monthly charges are low. Do you think this location is ok for family with young children?
TCL - it's a great neighborhood though you probably wouldn't like it if you are serious right-wingers. I have lived here 15 years don't have kids but don't see why a young family wouldn't love it here. Obviously walk around and get a feel for the vibe. Tompkins Square Park is the heart of the neighborhood. You probably know this but 15-20 years ago it was very dangerous area with a lot of heroin and crack. The joke about Alphabet Land was: Aware-Beware-Caution-Death.
But today it's as safe as any other neighborhood in Manhahttan. Some lament the change (see above posts). You do have a fair amount of bars on Ave A near 13th and you'd have to research the schools but it's still a great, diverse, historical and vibrant (e.g., google HOWL festival) neighborhood IMO.
get ready for private schools as you're only 2 blocks away from huge projects. take the money of the private schools and buy in a better neighborhood. if you can't afford it, then you should just rent.
i'm guessing that this would be your zoned schools and it's horrible.

the nearby schools are no better.
tcl - i live in the east village, have a child. its a great place to live, the nearby park (tompkins) was just redone and ppl come from as far as queens to go to it. however, what is said about the schools is true - you will not want your kid going to the local public schools in the EV, you'll want private if you can pay for private, thats fine, but if not you are better of renting in the good zoned publics (UWS/UES/WV).
Children couldn't get relatively equal educaton quality is a sad aspect in USA. I come from Asia and live in Europe for serveral years. I haven't seen a country like USA where people have to emphasis so much on school districts and therefore the value of the real estate property varies a lot. We're lucky to get some reimbursement for private school. If East village or LES are not affected by the poor schoole disctrict, they may attract more people and develope more quickly.
