If anyone has lived or knows people who have lived at 37 Wall St, could you share your opinions? There are some horror stories on Apartment Ratings...but you know, most people only write reviews when something goes wrong (not if they're happy tenants). Most don't scare me away, but a couple people think that maintenance employees have stolen things from their apartment. One person said her apartment was broken into (things were stolen, the place was trashed) while she was on vacation. The superintendent log showed she had been given a spare key, but the date shown was while she was on vacation, so apparently her key had been given to someone else. This sounds awful! Anyways, I've really been considering moving to 37 wall. They have cheap rents for the spaces and the amenities, but the apartments don't get any light...at all. But, that's something I decided I was willing to sacrifice. Any other reviews would be sooo much appreciated. Or what do you think of other buildings in the FiDi? (we're looking for a studio/aclove/home office etc. with doorman, fitness center, rooftop, and close to Wall St for work). Thanks! [less]
A couple of my friends live there, and the rent is quite reasonable given the location and the amenities they provide.
I think many NYC apartments get bad reviews on Apt Ratings because those reviewers are usually new to NY. You should probably ignore reviews that talk about high rent (duh, you're in NYC), small space (normal in NYC), unfriendly staff (you aren't in Kansas anymore), etc.
The light issue isn't unique to this bldg., as most apts in FiDi rentals don't really get much light, unless you take a higher-floor South- or West-facing unit at 2 Gold, maybe.
My recommendation is to avoid rental bldgs. (especially big ones) and rent units in condos instead. I don't know your budget, priority, etc., but all of the nice condo bldg. should have rentals available at a heafty discount, and I'd go for those.
I can't speak for 37 Wall specifically but I can speak about the owner/manager. I used to live at 75 West which has the same owner/manager. 75 West was and is a complete mess. The maintenance was terrible and when things broke, the cheapest possible method of fixing it was used which usually meant it broke again in two months. The common areas where not maintained at all and the place has become a magnet for 22 year olds putting 3 people in a 1 bedroom apartment with a pressure wall. I know 37 Wall is much nicer so hopefully some of these problems are not an issue but I would not trust the owner/manager to do anything right. One positive thing about 75 West - the staff were all really nice.
