Buyers Beware! The brokers on this property are not ethical. Use extra caution when dealing with them.

They dupped the current contract signer into signing by misleading them, after they couldn't get me to raise my offer anymore. I wonder how much they mislead the other party... Look at the history of this apartment and you'll see how long it was on the market and how many times it went into and out of contract. Something is not right with this place...

Sure, it's got RENT STABILIZED TENANTS IN PLACE!! And they're probably incredibly healthy octogenarians, thereby just screwing up the expectations of all those would be purchases.

I'm saying don't trust these three brokers for that apartment. I had dealings with them and they are the most unethical brokers I have ever had dealings with. I actually have a letter into Dottie Herman, the President of Douglas Elliman, and she has personally appoligized to me for these brokers actions and is contining to look into the way these 3 brokers performed their jobs. I actually feel bad for the people who are currently in contract becuase I suspect they were not told the truth as I was not. As such, I had to pull out of the deal. If the current person in contract happens to read this, please feel free to contact me and I will provide you with an honest recap of what happened with this apartment...

I can't speak about the brokers, but I know the building's board turns a lot of buyers down, which leads to a lot of offers that fall apart.

I'm the person you were supposedly in competition with. So I feel obligated to let you know that I did not increase my offer anymore. Not sure if the brokers told you otherwise. Also when I first made any offer on the apartment months ago, after the apartment had no activity for months, the brokers told me that suddenly they had 3 offers on the place. U suspect this was a lie, however I fell for it and raised my offer to what they told me would be the highest offer. There were no other offers. I then signed a contract and sent a deposit check. (10%) I suspect at this point you may have been mislead as to what you had to offer and how much I was raising my offer. I did not raise my offer and please be assured that my previous accepted offer was substantially lower than what they told me the competition "you" were already offering. I also believe these were all lies. I simple want to "right" this situation, and quite frankly teach these greedy brokers a lesson. Not sure if you can do anything at this point, unless they didn't cash your deposit checks yet?

i guess it all depends on how much one really wants the apt. I'm sorry this happened to you and i guess i would be annoyed too. In all fairness, we were never coerced to increase our offer and offered what we were comfortable offering . Hope things work out for you soon.

We'll I'm glad to hear that, it's just highly inappropriate for a broker to mislead buyers using unethical methods. I feel bad that you had to pay more than you needed to pay for this place, but don't worry in the long run it's a nice apartment that you'll make money on. It just really sucks that buyers have to deal with despicable brokers who are only out for themselves. People wonder why the industry has such a bad reputation... I have never used a broker as a buyer and probably never will, these days all the information is out there on the internet available to everyone. The brokerage field really needs to clean up its act otherwise they will be in serious trouble, because my generation has a bad taste in our mouths for them. On a positive note, I guess we'll be neighbors as I'm going into contract at another two bedroom at Plaza 400. Good luck with the place and please don't place any trust with these brokers, do your DUE DILIGENCE! I learned my lesson for sure.
