Discussion about
Nothing wrong with the TV. 5 year old model.
Post your email address.
nyfineman@yahoo.com, why not?
Fifthlinegoon@yahoo.com
josefsz@hotmail.com
I can pick it up tonight anytime!
West81st@gmail.com. And I'll get there before josephz.
no way. i'm there waiting already. on call.
Why are you getting rid of it?
y'all just gave emails to a nigerian drug cartel although I'm not sure what good that does them until you then provide checking account and SSNs in response to the email that is surely about to come.
NYCMatt: Ever hear the old saying about looking a gift horse in the mouth?
Josefsz: You have the address? Looks like nyc10023 has more stalkers than I thought.
would be great for my new apt:) east30s@msn.com
Give it to me! I need it so I can sell it on Craigslist to help fill my giant plexiglass piggy bank with pennies.
Wait, so it's been nyc10023 all along behind those Nigerian scams?
"Looks like nyc10023 has more stalkers than I thought." ... sure, insult the gift-giver by implying that she's not stalk-worthy!
BTW, nyc10023, that's very nice of you. The only thing I want from you is stories of how you resolved the stampede. If you want to go King Solomon on it, I've got a buzz saw available.
i would like to pre-order your home. whenever you get tired of it and want a newer, fancier one. i'm here.
Okay, okay. I tried to sell it on CL for $250, but no inquiries. First come, first served, so it's going to fineman.
nycmatt: long story.
uwsmom: I feel like that sometimes - would like to declutter completely by caravanning around. My partner is SO not up for that.
i was hoping you would make everyone write a "why i deserve this tv" essay and, of course, post it here.
Long answer as to why we're getting rid of it ...
It's a sony pfm 50c1 - which means it's a 50-inch monitor, not a TV.
As per Amazon.com:
Designed for professional and high-end video applications, Sony's 50-inch PFM-50C1 PlasmaPro flat-panel display is almost all picture. At a mere 49 inches wide and less than four inches deep, the widescreen plasma monitor features 1,365 x 768 resolution, a high contrast ratio (500:1), and high brightness (650 cd/m2). While it lacks traditional home theater connections (HD component-video or DVI), adapters are available for connecting it with various DTV receivers. Nevertheless, the handles a range of high-definition and other formats through a pair of D-Sub 15-pin connectors (analog RGB/digital YUV), including NTSC, PAL, SECAM, NTSC4.43, PAL-M, PAL 60, PAL-N, 1080i, 720p, and 480i. The monitor accepts standard composite- and S-video signals, too.
When we moved, we got a 50" TV to go with the ludicrous built-in system (as you can guess, I don't watch a lot of TV or listen to music). Rendering the 50" monitor superfluous.
I think someone should do a phd thesis on why some stuff sells on CL and other stuff not. I had no trouble selling a 2yo dishwasher (impossible to test onsite) for 70% of list. Selling a 5 year old flatscreen monitor, no such luck at less than 5% of original price.
Stuff that stuffs into cars w/o requiring sidecars?
Well, "...1,365 x 768 resolution, a high contrast ratio (500:1)..." That might have something to do with it. A 5 year old 50" plasma that's only 720p with only a 500:1 contrast ratio is pretty bad. The pixels must be the size of lego blocks. Tv's from 5 years ago age very fast. Besides, 50" is too big.
Well, it is what it is.
It's better than NO television set, yes?
Or certainly preferable (these days) to the 15-year-old 25-inch CRT model I currently own, on which it's becoming increasingly difficult to view original programming that's scaled for larger screens.
First roombas, now televisions. nyc10023 is very good to streeteasy.
I made the mistake of buying those new Samsung 55" LED tv recently. It's a great tv, but it is way too big for my living room. I kind of feeling trashing with such a large set. I'm contemplating selling it and getting a smaller 40"ish size instead.
I wasn't trying to insult you for the tv's specs, just offering a reason to your statement on why it wasn't selling on CL for $200. Nevertheless, yes - it is a very generous "present".
I used to freecycle a lot, but nowadays there are a lot of crazies on FC - wouldn't want them to know where I live, etc.
Most rewarding fcycle experience was giving away maternity clothes - met a single mom to whom I gave away a ton of baby stuff.
I used to give away party leftovers (soda, trays of cookies, fruits) on fcycle - felt pretty good about that too.
Thanks nyc10023. I searched your email and you look like a good StreetEasy regular, so I figured that I would take a chance.
Careful nyfineman, this is an old Amway stunt and don't be surprised if you are suddenly looking at timeshares in Florida.
In response to nyc10023's question about why some stuff sells on CL and other stuff doesn't, a friend of mine did an experiment (unwittingly). He listed a bed (PB, I think) for very cheap so he could move it quickly, but had no takers. Then he doubled or tripled the price, and it sold straight away.
I moved apartments last year. Before I moved I listed a bunch of stuff on CL, some for free and some for sale. Everything I listed for sale eventually sold, but the only thing I was able to give away for free was an A/C. I had to pay the maintenance guys in my old building to get rid of the rest of it.
So there you have it - a lot of it is the perceived value in the buyers' minds. When you offer something for free or on the cheap, people assume there's something wrong with it. I am guilty of the same thing - when I used to search for used furniture on CL (before the bed bug epidemic), I always set a minimum price to avoid the dross.
im giving all my stuff to salvation army when i move....i already have a date set .......
I had a Fijitsu plasma monitor as a wall television in 2000. It lasted 4.5 years before it suffered a complete technical failure. I replaced it with a LCD Samsung, which continues to serve after six years without a problem. However, I think the new LED displays are amazing.
So who was the winner of the prize?
nyc10023- haven't heard from you since you awarded me the tv. Did someone trump my $0 bid?
You have mail.
thanks, got it and returned.
i just saw the new samsung 50 inch, 3d television that can convert 2d images to 3d images. amazing!
