Discussion about
So I'm new to this game and I've seen a few listings on the times site about 2/2 s this building at great price but none currently listed here or on brodskys site....are these all bait and switch? Or do some of these agents have ins at the building? Thanks for your help!
We looked at West End Towers last year around this time and weren't impressed. We went directly to the leasing office as working through a broker means you will probably lose any incentives they are offering (since Brodsky would have to pay the broker). I thought the 2/2s we saw were small--down to about 850 sq ft. The interior seemed dingy to me. We did look at a terraced unit as well, but in the end we ended up in a prewar in a better location. Between the West End Towers and the Archstone apartments across the park, the Archstone building wins hands down. The interiors were in much better shape. They were a little more for the 2/2s, but seemed in better repair/condition.
hi - i looked at it a long time ago (1-1/2 yrs, maybe?) and at the time there was major construction going on at a couple of directly adjacent sites (to the north and east, if memory serves), and more construction on the way to the south. main negative about the building was that walking to it directly from the east means having to walk through the amsteradam homes housing project. i don't think it's particularly bad or rowdy as projects go, but it's a factor. (alternately, walking 57th and then cutting up west end ave, or walking from 66th and cutting down are options.)
fyi - building does look a little worn around the edges because it was one of the few new pet-friendly buildings of its era (1994, I think), and one of the very few in the area. so if dog friendliness is a plus for you, i think that's another piece of the story. i think the pet ownership percentageship is really high.
Thanks for the answers any other buildings on the west side with sim. pricing?
I actually lived at 75 WEA for 3 years (from 2004-2007). I lived in a 2-bed, 2-bath with terrace on the 31st floor. It was before the new construction went up blocking the hudson views. I really loved living there. High up in the tower there are only 4 apts per floor. It is the only building I have lived in in NYC where I became really frindly with my neighbors. I now live on the UES in one of Glenwood's high end building's. The rent is exhorbitant. The building is stuffy, the doormen aren't very helpful (it was pouring one night and I was all dressed up to go out - the dorman refused to help hail me a cab!) On the contrary, in West end Towers the doormen were great. In fact, when a package was delivered there accidently 1 year after I had moved out, the doorman called me on my cellphone to let me know. I know that West end towers is a little worn and a litle older than some of the other buildings but it was a great place to live!
Did you deal with brodsky or use a broker?
I've visited 101 WEA and was quite impressed , 75 WEA was quite unimpressive. The later felt rundown and not well maintaned versus 101.
I had a broker.
