I am a first time home buyer that just experienced some insanity and wanted to share my experience. Disheartening to say the least. I learned a lot from all this though and I am glad to put it behind me and proceed. I went to an open house without my broker one sunday (this past mother's day) and met up with the seller's realtor to check out a co-op. Upon my arrival, there was no sign in sheet. I took a look and said we will keep in touch. I wanted to do some research with the apt (since it was a HDFC and I wanted to learn more about it myself) so I asked some questions to the seller's broker. I'm really new to this open house scene so I guess I asked some annoying questions, but valid to the seller's realtor such as if the coop was in debt or not, or do I even qualify for the HDFC income cap. I got some responses but not too much of a friendly one. A couple days later the seller's realtor was asking if I wanted to make an offer. I decided to have my amazing realtor (personable and really helpful unlike that seller's realtor who was sort of pompous) that I have been looking at apts with to start doing all the talk for me on my behalf. I looked up on this forum and trulia's to check if it was okay for me to bring in my realtor even though he didn't accompany me to the open house and from what I read, it talked about how it would be important for me to have a realtor on my side, plus I didn't sign any sheet of paper like I usually do when I go to open houses without my realtor. The next day after my realtor contacted the seller's realtor, the seller's realtor contacted me saying that "some guy" he doesn't even know who it is is contacting him on my behalf. I told him that's my realtor and he proceeded to tell me how "unprofessional" it was for me to bring some guy he doesn't even know from a hole in a wall to talk in my behalf. Long story short, he told me to go ahead and make an offer with my realtor but just know that I would be the one paying for my realtor's commission because there was noway he was going to share his commission. He told me how hard he has been working on this, how he has been helpful to answering my questions and how dare I bring in a guy to swipe half of his commission. We went back and forth on the phone for about 45 mins, having him belittle me while I conveyed back how horrible this conversation was. My realtor did some research and the seller's realtor did not have an exclusive listing with them anymore because it expired so we found out that we could just go make an offer ourselves but my realtor reached out to him to see if we could still work together. Then today his colleague left me a message saying there is NO WAY I can bring in another realtor to this and if I want to make an offer I have to do it myself directly to them. At this point, I didn't want to talk to them and so I had my realtor contact them and from the update, they threatened and yelled at my realtor and his manager, and they barely got a word in while this lady yelled about this whole situation. At the end of the day, we found out that I make a little over their income cap (which I had questioned the seller's realtor in the beginning because I did some research on my own thru Acris by looking at their deeds but he kept on telling me how the board is easy going on that). What a horrible experience this was and I am glad I make too much to make an offer because this apt already has a bad omen through the seller's realtor being crazy and unprofessional, calling me "unprofessional" and leaving me intimidating messages. I really hope none of you will have to work with the realtors that represented the seller in the future. They were just not kind and was just there to make money and not care about the whole home buying experience that someone like me, who's a first time buyer is trying to accomplish. [less]

There are ppl in the world that should never ever get you down.
1) check out clerks;
2) telemarketers;
3) car salesman;
4) re broker.
Save your feelings for ppl you care about and you respect, don't waste them on business deals nor middlemen that have NOTHING to do with your life past one transaction.
care to share the realtor's company and name... that would help
lol w67 - you could also add "anonymous posters on a RE board" to that list...
This sounds like a terrible situation - you should get the hell out of there. Sounds like its only going to get worse from there. Some people are just jerks.
Am I allowed to really blast the company and their realtor's name on this? A lot of the realtors I have previously talked to has always been charming and helpful but these folks were just plain rude. I literally was trembling on the phone when I received the confrontational phone call from the seller's realtor. Yes, I am glad to say I am done with that co-op and I am glad they won't be getting the commission from the sellers with the money I pay would of paid them.
Sure, why not? As long as you're not making false claims, there is this thing called the First Amendment, and Streeteasy ain't one to engage in unwarranted censoring.
hysteryck, you should at least share the name of the company so others can avoid being screamed at.
hysteryck, do you want others to have the same experience as yours? by posting their info, you're assisting other buyers and sellers of staying far away from the broker and the company in general.
In fact, if you wanted to be helpful, you'd post under the building for future potential buyers, and let them know about the income cap and the raging lunatic broker and his boss.

At this point, by not singling out the offending party it a disservice to the brokers you found charming and helpful.
Anyone taking bets on the agency?
I'm guessing Corcoran.
This was the place I was looking at. Please note, that the seller themselves were really sweet. Their reps are the ones I am calling out. Beware of that company, they are not part of NYSAR either.

Their income cap is 64500 per year, and even though they claimed the board is lenient, it really is not up to the board and their leniency. If the seller's broker was upfront about this, it would of never gone to the point it went.
Misrahi, no surprise. People complain about the occasional Corcoran or Halstead broker, but these guys are in a class all of their own.
and did you tell the really sweet sellers what occurred?

ANYONE that is rude and abusive to a buyer (or any other person) , whether it be an apartment or a roll at the grocery store does not deserve a millisecond of your time and allow you to get upset. I'm sure you were in shock but you should have just hung up and the phone when it was clear what type of people you were dealing with.
And not all, but many brokers are not really human beings so they cannot be held responsible for their behavior.
As shocked as I was from by his behavior, I enjoyed calling him out on his rudeness. I'm wishing him and his sidekick the best, because they will need it.
they are not legally allowed to make you pay any commission as a buyer. you really should tell the seller about this by the way.
