Discussion about Santorini at 35-40 30th Street in Astoria
anyone know anything about this building?
UPDATE: No (working) washing machine on 4 yet. Still have only 1 dryer. We're supposed to have 2 of each on every floor. I didn't check the other floors last night.
tobytobytoby says "I am about to make an offer for one of the units. I was hoping to chat either or both of you to get your opinion of the building".
Not sure why anyone would be putting an offer at this time reading through the old and recent threads. The more recent accounts from people living in the building certainly do not inspire confidence. Unless they are literally giving away the units at knock-down prices or there is some other unique value of this building compared to others. There must be a catch somewhwere - what is it that attracts many to this building despite its catalogue of problems?
Matsui, trolling is not appreciated. Are you an agent for another Astoria building?
I got back today, looks like a new machine on every floor except 4. Going to try to find Zevi...
No - neither agent nor troll.
Just feel that those of you who have moved in are damaging your cause, and the value of your building, by continuing to spread dirty linen in public (as several had done in the pre-closing stage). If I were in your situation I would organize my tenant meetings and discuss problems offline. Doing it here is unlikely to bring comfort to prospective buyers. Harold also didnt help matters by trying to turn this thread into a propaganda machine, but thankfully he has calmed down.
For benefit of the prospective buyer who is likely to troll through this whole thread, maybe residents should focus more on the positives rather than negatives. So far the latter seem to outweigh the former in over 300 repsonses.
Hello Everyone,
I am a prospective buyer to the Santorini and I have been viewing the apartments and speaking with my broker for the past 2 months, if any of the residents of the building had a spare moment where I could just ask a few questions that would be greatly appreciated. Thanks everyone!

I personally think that the problems brought here are relatively minor. The sponsor team had problems with the TCO process, and has failed to effectively manage the laundry machines; however, I expect that to change when the management company is in place. The biggest part of the deal is the quality of the building/units, and value thereof, and those haven't changed.
I do agree with you that the dirty laundry (pun intended) should be managed internally, and not on a public forum. To this end, I've created a private google group:
http://groups.google.com/group/santorini_astoria
for residents only. If you are a resident, please apply for membership. As a simple token of proof, just write in the notes what unit you live in (you don't have to use your real name), and I will add you.
Excellent, redbullet. I'll move over to that group.
A friend of mne is interested in purchasing a condo, and is in negtiations right now. But we heard something odd. Is it possible there is no warranty for condos in this building because of the number of floors? Any feedback on this?
You can reach me at bobv362@gmail.com Any insight would be greatly apprecaited.
does this building have washer/dryer in each apt?
No, Will eventually have 2 washer 2 dryer per floor.
Currently, i think every floors has one set. Okay for now.
hello, i'm thinking of buying, so could someone (preferably a current resident) please drop me an email with realistic impressions of what everyday life is like at Santorini - from the quality of actual units (any water leaks, how is the sound insulation re: subway being just 1.5 blocks away etc) to services from the managing board (are they responding to complaints/request and how fast, are washers & dryers now 2 of each per floor etc). i'm interested in all that can help me make my decision. my email is fadisi1@netzero.com thank you very much in advance!!!
I am interested in buying a 2-bedroom apartment. When I went to the open house, I was told that a washer and dryer unit can possibly be installed in the apartment somehow in one of the smaller closets - is anyone thinking about doing this? I noticed the closet is probably too small for any laundry/dryer machine. Also I was told that no current residents have done this yet..just wondering if any potential buyer is thinking about doing this and if it is possible to install washer and dryer in other places of the apartment besides the small closet. Thanks!
Hello! I'm also thinking seriously about buying a large 1BR and converting it to a 2BR. Can any current residents drop me a line and share their honest opinions/experiences in the building? Is the train noise really annoying? Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks!
Sorry, you can reach me at swaffles@yahoo.com (so you don't have to share your thoughts in the public forum). Thanks!
I am thinking of purchasing a unit here. Can current residents offer any insights on plus and minus of this building and location? How is the quality? Any issues? Thanks.
I am thinking of purchasing here as well. Can anyone (preferably current residents or in contract) provide insights on the quality of this building? Any issues? Any positives? Would it be a good investment? Does this neighborhood command high prices? Thanks!
