That's not Harlem, but the UWS/MorningsideHeights.

I live and work between the two neighborhoods. Bronxboy is absolutely right.

Not the greatest block in the city, but not Harlem either. On the west side, Harlem is north of Central Park and east of Morningside Park.

Suggested thread retitling: UWS still there.

Per Wikipedia:

"Harlem stretches from the East River west to the Hudson River between 155th Street; where it meets Washington Heights%u2014to a ragged border along the south. Central Harlem begins at 110th Street, at the northern boundary of Central Park; Spanish Harlem extends east Harlem's boundaries south to 96th Street, while in the west it begins north of Upper West Side, which gives an irregular border west of Morningside Avenue."

Bob_d got it correct. Morningside Heights is more assocaited with UWS than with Harlem. West of Morningside Park and especially West of Broadway. Bob_d should correct wikipedia.

What floor of the walkup is this on (listing doesn't say)? 6th floor seems typical for students like Obama at the time...

Officially Morningside Heights is the area west of Manhattan Avenue -- check the city map
Central harlem is east of Manhattan Ave
Not that it matters -- all of it is part of Greater Harlem
Doesn;t Greater Harlem sound better than SOHA etc
