leelaura:Check the bathroom contractors threads. You aren't going to install the shower doors yourself?

The best contractors will know. Good luck.

leelaura: I've heard of the following company, but don't know much about it and haven't used them personally. Its called Mr. Shower Door in Norwalk Connecticut and the website is www.mrshowerdoor.com.

I used ABC Shower Doors for our current master bathroom. I found them $$$, but I had a bad experience with GCs installing shower doors, so I went with the specialists for something I use every day. Found them v. professional, knew their stuff (had me reinstall a marble threshold to tilt water away from the door).

Do you really need 3 custom glass doors? For std size tub glass doors, I would just buy and have contractor install. For shower enclosures, I would do custom.

We used Mr. Shower Door based out of North Jersey for our UWS bath renovation. They did a reasonable job at a decent price and came back for a minor finish part replacement without needing to be hounded.

here's an oldie...so I measured my width of the opening around my tub and its roughly 53 inches wide..I would think the standard would be 54 inches, maybe my measurement was a bit off, but should I be able to fit a 54 inch shower door into it? any experiences with this ?

Whoever fabricates your custom enclosure will measure/template as a first step. Have a 54" tub in our second bath but we just used a nice curtain there.

It was 5 years ago. 2kish. It is a 2-sided shower enclosure (shorter on one side because it abuts the tub). Approx. 3' by 4' Go to this website - http://415greenwich.com/interior - my bathtub & shower are configured like the bathroom in the pics.

If you have no GC, ignore this. If you have a GC who will install the doors, I have found it isn't worth the money saved to bid the doors myself. These are expensive items and installation has a host of things that can go wrong. I strongly prefer the GC to take responsibility for ordering and installation. If you order them yourself and have someone other than the manufacturer install them, and should something go wrong, you will find yourself between the installer and manufacturer who point fingers at each other while you are left in no man's land. If a GC is doing it, it won't matter who screwed up; the GC will simply have to make it right since the GC--not you--selected the manufacturer and ordered the glass.

KW - I had a GC when the shower doors were installed, and the GC recommended ABC. ABC manufactured and installed the doors. ABC did a great job - they first inspected the shower area, recommended that the threshold be reintalled (it wasn't pitched perfectly) and installed. 4 years after installation, I asked them to come back to re-glue the hinges (our shower door abuts the bathroom door - design flaw, should have done pocket door). Not a problem.

If you have the space, go for doorless walk in showers.
As long as I am financially capable,I will never go to a doored shower ever again.

Thanks everyone. We are using our super as GC as we only need painting, few new electrical boxes and a bathroom door, which we prefer to be glass. Super mentioned that the cost is $5K which seemed very high for just a door. Will appreciate any comments on the cost.

It does sound high. We let our contractor get the glass for our walk-in shower stall. It was about $3000. We did not go for the upcharge for the "clear" glass and ours is supposedly green. Without clear next to it, you never notice again. It wasn't worth the money to go for clear in our opinion. For reference, our stall includes about a 2.5 foot fixed floor to near ceiling glass panel, and a swinging door about the same size.
