Discussion about
Hello, Through my condo buying experience I have used 2 buyer brokers. After some research, I will ultimately purchase a condo where I dealt with the seller's broker without the help of my 2 personal brokers. I spent quite a great deal of time with one of my personal brokers, touring the city for several months and viewing a handful of units. Since I ultimately won't be using one of his listings, is it appropriate to give him a gift of some sort for his efforts? Thank you.
Its appropriate since you were a tremedous waste of time. You probably jerked him around town more than you are willingly admit in your OP.
(P.S. - I am not a big fan of most brokers myself but I do have some sympathy for the few honest ones)
Thanks, anyone else?
would he give you a gift if he decided to drop you as a client?
I'm a sales rep in another industry, not a realtor and that's the nature of sales...we wine, dine and cross our fingers that the deal closes. I would be amazed when I lose a deal that the client would give me a gift. I would also be uncomfortable with that.
Your realtor knows you win some you lose some. I'm sure the next deal could happen after working on it for only a few days.
It is neither appropriate nor necessary for you to give to a gift to a broker. In the event you truly appreciated their service, then make a referral if possible.
i agree with recent posters.. perhaps write a thoughtful note. The client development aspect of the running around town with the broker is really important to them. We keep referring people to someone who show us around, diligently and without any sense of entitlement. These referrals are the bread and butter of this kind of business, given the slew of brokers.
Thanks guys/babes for confirming my gut. Already sent one buddy his way and will continue to refer. Great, responsive guy.
I don't see anything wrong with showing your appreciation for the hard work of this broker of several months time. If you don't want to send a gift then the referrals will be greatly appreciated but you could also write a nice letter to the broker's manager.
