Discussion about
i'm new to this apt hunting game and am searching for an apt in either aug or sept...except i have a price cap [around $2200 for a 2br] and would also like to live in the midtown area. i know that early summer opens up a ton of availabilities...but during which month[s] would apartments go for cheapest?
february
jul/august
i would think Jul/Aug would be some of the priciest months. Jan/Feb seem the best IMHO.
November
december as everyone is stuffed from thanks giving and can't be bothered with apartment shopping when christmas shopping needs to be done.
Saturday
$2200 for a 2 bedroom in midtown? Best time to sign is the day after the apocolypse.
It won't be a real bedroom for that price unless a dirty bomb goes off in midtown. you are better off going to queens or brooklyn. Or rent a 1 BR and use the living room as the 2nd BR.
Maybe the day after might be too soon, wait till Nov/Dec after the apocolypse.
LOL okay fair enough. reason why i asked was because i stumbled across this: http://streeteasy.com/nyc/rental/663370-rental-358-w-45th-st-clinton-new-york which explains why i thought 2200 for a 2br was feasible. landlords probably wouldn't let prospective tenants sign two months before the intended move-in month though, right?
Have you checked out the area? Not the nicest and there is a strip club across the street and some sort of shelter on the same block. Your landlord also used part of the living room as the 2nd BR.
sorry, thought you were asking for the best time in the summer. i agree with december, or as ex renter said, the apocalypse.
i would think they would let you sign now, if you want to
The entire apartment is like 600 square feet, if that. The "bedrooms" are the size of walk-in closets. It is basically an overpriced studio apartment with some pressure walls installed. I hope you adore your roommate!
you're new to NY, right?
I would assume its obvious vlz will be new to NY. Its a tiny apartment with a wall down the middle in a walk up building. But if thats your budget and you want to be in NY I've actaully seen worse. I think if you wanted to sign for 2 months from now it shouldnt be a problem.
thanks for all your feedback. yes, i'm new to this, and don't know where to tap resources aside from looking on streeteasy. would you guys recommend a broker to make this search easier? i'm in no hurry, but if a broker can offer nicer places not posted on public websites, then i'd strongly consider that. also, are there other sources to apt hunt aside from streeteasy/zillow/clist?
This is the opportunity we've all been waiting for: A broker-off between our friends Ty and Hones to see who can deliver the $2200/2 bed in mid town. My money is on Ty - so many satisfied customers can't be wrong
