Discussion about
Any ideas as to the least expensive parking garages around 66th and Riverside Blvd? Have to park 2 monthly cars. Is there a website for this?

There's no comprehensive site.

For a while the newer garages at 240 and 220 RSB, etc., were undercutting themselves and the one under Lincoln Towers.

Rates are usually negotiable, but will increase every year. It's a hassle to switch your NYC tax exemption from one garage to another, so the garages play on that. Sort of like renting anything.

For now it's the parking on 57th and west end avenue. The huge lot has indoor and outdoor parking. Should be around until Extell builds there..

Probably too late, but here are the prices I found in December:

$350/month at the Icon across from Jubilee (under the Lincoln Towers playground)
$405/month at the QuikPark in 160RSB (67th street)
$500+ at the garages underneath the newer buildings on RSB (Rushmore, Avery)

All prices are for sedans, non-SUV or oversized cars.

Agree with NWT: you can & should negotiate. Just take a walk along RSB and ask each one.

What's up with the ICON coupon for 177.40/month for new customers? A sales agent was in my building a few months ago recommending calling and negotiating. They bring pretty shitty wine, and some chocolates. I keep my car on the street. Was told that many people are giving up parking due to "hard times", and that I should negotiate based on the fact that I didn't have a garage. FWIW. I never did.
Love to hear any feedback on whether 177.40 plus tax exists. BTW, it was 169 then.

Sounds clever--steer customers to the least desirable/least used garages and charge the most for the best ones.

Are people really giving up their cars? Street parking will be the last place this will ever show up. The first place will be drops in the price of the more expensive but more convenient garages. (So I will be the last to know since I park on the street, unless someone wants to post what they are finding out here.)

Not particularly clever, normal business practice. RSB is hardly a desirable location. Incidentally this sales rep particularly recommended talking to the main office, not individual garages.
I'm just being a reporter here, no direct experience. Agree with NWT, you should negotiate.
There must be a car parking industry, as there are dog walkers and cat feeders. Wonder how much they charge?

RIVERSIDER, you and your alter ego 160RSB should get the kinks in your coordination worked out.

TWO nice down days, a mechaya. Maybe parking rates will fall further.

gaongaon, I'd guess that at best, that deal is for "storage parking", meaning you pay additional fees each time you take the car out or check it back in. Additionally, I bet that's non-summer pricing, and also a teaser rate that assumes you'll find it to much of a hassle to find another place to park when the rates increase.

For what it's worth, we park our SUV in LIC across from the police station and court house. It is a quick subway ride from midtown and the rate is only $280 with in/out privileges on 24 hour notice. What we were quoted around Sutton place area and parts north were around $800 for the SUV.

gaongaon, I used a coupon I held on to since last summer. My monthly rate is $200, unlimited use. Prices are dependent on location. If anyone wants more details on what's available call 1-800-421-6858. Ask for Fernando.

Thanks, ChrisT. Some people just like paying more than they need to. My main interest was getting through the snow, but the most I've paid for a dig out, has been 30 bucks. Car wasn't visible.
But I may just check this out. My older coupon said 169. (at the time that the rep came to our building). The one in the last coupon package says 177.40 before taxes, new customers only. well, that's me. I'll report back.

gaongaon -- 170/month is a steal. Take it! And if you sign up with the Icon at one location, you get discounts on hourly parking in other Icon locations around manhattan. I pay the 405/month for the convenience of having my car in the same building I live in, enter/exit through an inside stairwell. Helpful perk for daily 6am departures, especially in the rain & snow. If I weren't getting reimbursed by my company, I'd probably walk the few yards to the Icon and save the 200/month.

And no, I'm not Riversider's alter-ego.
