Does anyone know anything about this building? Are there a lot of students living here? I'm interested in the large second floor unit but trying to get over the negatives.
Positives: space!, fairly well done renovations, space!
Negatives: Second floor, on top of the street (noisy?), very little light as there is a parking a few feet from the windows, small kitchen, building hallways feel like a dorm room, messy basement & laundry room.

I currently live at 88 Bleecker. There are very few students living here for whatever reason. It seems like most people that live here are either people that have been here a long time, or young couples, from what I've seen. I agree that the hallways could be improved, though they were just repainted. As for the laundry room, it was also recently refurbished with new washers and dryers that operate on cards rather than coins (hooray!) and a new linoleum floor. Not luxurious, but functional and clean. The storage room is also being renovated. Previously, all tenants received a 3x3 square on the floor, and you needed the super to access it. Now there will be bike storage and storage cages with private access for different prices depending on the unit size you get. I think ours is $30 bucks for a decent sized unit. The renovation is supposed to be completed this month or next.
I also like having the package room and cyberdoorman. Also, the location is tough to beat.
All in all, my wife and I have loved living here for the past three years. We're actually looking to move ourselves, due to a little one on the way, so our 1 bedroom won't be big enough for too much longer. I went to see the 2nd floor unit too, and agree that the space is great, but it's a little too close for Broadway for my taste. I liked the apartment itself, though. Any other questions, feel free to respond to the thread. Sorry I didn't see this earlier!

Hi SimbaPenn,
I hope your apartment search is going well! I'm looking at a unit in 88 Bleeker so read your post with interest. You comments about the cyberdoorman were encouraging as I have no experience with such a service. Sounds like it works well for you though. Is there anything you do not like about the building? According to streeteasy.com there has been an unusually high number of sales the past year (http://streeteasy.com/nyc/building/88-bleecker-street-new_york). Any idea why that might be? Anything you think I should know about the building?
Thanks in advance!

What is the subleasing policy like? I was told 2/4 years after 2 years. Does the board typically allow extensions beyond the two years?
