Discussion about
Does anyone have any experience or knowledge of what happens when a residential coop building goes from Union employees to non Union? My intuition says that it can't be easy. Any thoughts or relevant experience? A new member of my board wants to look into it and I think it's going to be a nightmare and am very much against it.

First of all, it's not up to the co-op board -- it's up to the union employees already in place to "de-certify" from their union.

Unless you're offering a deal for the union employee(s) that is far superior to their existing union contract, don't expect this to ever happen.

Biggest problem will be with super ... no super wants to be non-union because that leaves them
much more vulnerable to summary firing and eviction.
