Discussion about
Need to replace about 200 square feet of parquet floors due to damage. About how much should I expect to pay to take out the old, put in the new and 3 coats of clear shellack? Also, it was due to my toilet overflowing. My insurance company is saying that there is a possibility that my coop would be responsible due to the floors being original and it being part of the "building". Seems strange. Anyone with experience?

floors and issue with toilet - your issue not the coops. IMO.

I agree with gcondo. But it sounds like your insurance company is going to try to lay it off on the coop insurance company - probably won't be able to do it, but they will take up a lot of time arguing.

Babsie, I wouldn't worry about the ultimate responsibility; your insurance company should reimburse you for the work and they figure out if they have a claim against the coop. Have they sent someone already? Have you contacted contractors to get estimates?

No, I haven't received an adjuster. I just emailed to let them know that the damage is getting worse due to the wood expanding into "good wood". I agree. I would think the insurance company should pay and subrogate against someone else if they think they can.

Get a couple of estimates, to make sure how the damage can be fixed and how long it will take, if possible before the adjuster's visit.

Agree with Maly, especially because you have to know ahead of time if the repaired flooring will match existing that wasn't damaged but is adjacent. Might be bigger job than the 200 sf.
