Discussion about
What size rug do you think would work in a 10'7 x 10'0 room? Its a baby's room. Thanks

don't get a nursery theme rug, they start crawling and playing and making messes before you know it. unless you have tons of money to burn and don't mind completely redecorating the room in, literally, less than a year. don't think "nursery", because that's just hormones. think "playroom".

I think a 5x7 (0val if you can find it) would be fine. This allows the crib and the dresser to stand directly on the floor. Don't spend too much money, nursery rugs can get seriously messed up for many reasons

A lot depends on room access/egress, closets doors, and positioning of furniture. The room is nearly square, but if you only have furniture along one wall (or pair of parallel walls) the open space where the rug goes could be a fairly narrow rectangle.

Good suggestions above lucillebluth and fllady regarding style and cost. I wouldn't go oval unless the positioning of furniture somehow dictates it (e.g. a rocking chair/glider in one corner), because an oval rug reduces the area of the central playspace by cutting off the corners.

My personal favorites for kids' rooms are Gabbehs and other "primitive" rugs. They tend to be thick and sturdy; they come in a wide variety of sizes, shapes, designs and colors, including many that are suitably playful without being overly cute; many stains blend in with the natural color variation; and they can be had inexpensively because of global glut. For what it's worth, I've had pretty good experience with these guys: http://www.ecarpetgallery.com/Discount-Carpets.aspx. Your mileage may vary, of course.

my 2 cents, have you considered an interlocking foam mat? skip hop has some great color options and was so easy to keep clean, no dust issues. Finished size is 70" x 56", but can be smaller if needed. We used one in our living room and it was great, our baby loved crawling/playing on it. It's also portable.

I also like the FLOR product - again, easy to keep clean, can customize size. The tiles are about 20" and there are a lot of color/pattern/texture options. We used one underneath dining table and worked great for us.

Wall to wall is best, so that the baby doesn't start crawling under an area rug...www.GreenandCompanyDesign.com
