Discussion about
I'm considering some rental options and I would be interested in hearing any pros or cons on these buildings. Thanks.
Lyric is a nice building with good service but overpriced. The leasing office is a nightmare and I'm not sure if this is a general Related Rentals thing or just with the Lyric, but they can be very unreasonable (like leaving many apartments empty for many months rather than giving a reasonable concession to people who have been in the building a while during the last two years when renters have had more of an upper hand). There is a nice roof, decent small gym, lots of dogs, quite a few small children and a playroom and farely good folks who work at the front desk. If you have any particular questions, I would be happy to offer my opinion. I don't know much about the other two buildings.
boulevard and bromley are nice. what size apt are you looking for? very few large (big 2 or real 3 br) type units.
Visited some people in the Bromley not long ago w/my kids - huge playroom, decent pool, and it is across the street from the Children's Museum - big plusses if you have small kids.
The Lyric is a rental building so it won't have the best rate, bur it is adjacent to a new express subway and is newer (2000). Boulevard (1989) and Bromley (1983) are condos built earlier so level of finishes varies considerably. I've been in all the buildings, and the better units in each trump the worst units in the others. It is case by case for getting a unit that is quiet, with good exposures and light. I noticed that you left off the Sagamore (1997) another related building on less appealing Amsterdam Ave--good choice. You might want to consider another pricy rental--the Melar a Rose managed building on W 93rd and Broadway. It's newer then the others and well designed.
Thanks for these thoughts. I liked the Lyric but would prefer to be in the 70s or 80s if I can find something. Bromley and Blvd were both nice as well, though as you point out, the buildings are older and the units I saw had not been renovated. Any other suggestions of specific buildings to consider? Thanks.
The Columbia is a Condo on 96th Street/Broadway that sometimes has apartments for rent by owner. Also has a pool and health club.
we have a unit available for rent in the Bromley that has just been renovated -- new kitchen, new flooring, new closet shelving. I think we're taking an app. on it today -- feel free to email me to find out -- but I found in the first couple weeks it was available that we got a decent amount of interest from within the building, which says nice things about how current tenants want to stay there.

We looked at the Lyric back in 2003. The rental office is a nightmare to deal with, they don't deal, they would rather the apt go vacant for a year then set a lower precedent. We didn't get the apt, were heart broken for two weeks and then got an apt with Brodsky that' infitiely better. Looking back, we're thrilled the Lyric turned us down.
I lived in the Bromley when it was brand new. Glad to hear it's still desirable. We had a nice 2 br unit with bay windows. They had a great health club that had classes - not sure if they still do that and the pool was nice as well. Great location if you like the UWS.
