Assuming that they are well-renovated and about 375-400 feet and not shoebozes.

Isn't a 375-400 sf. 1 bedroom by definition a shoebox? Or more likely a studio?

ph41:

Because much of the housing in the East village and LES is pre-1916 Old Law tenanment walk-ups, many
1-bds are much smaller than 400 square feet.

I would think no more than $1300-1400 if not too far from the subway. Afterall it is barely the size of a studio.

300 Mercer:

Many on Craiglist are asking over $2400/month, that's why I'm
asking on SE

Craigslist is useless as a source; it is no kind of guide for the quality or price you can expect because of the endless scammers/spammers. 375-400 sf is a small studio, not a 1-bedroom. Try NYBits to get a better sense of real pricing in that area.

I've been on and advertised on NYBits. Didn't do me a bit of good.

Julia-
Have you measured your apt? If it's squarish, a 22 X 25 studio is pretty damn big by NYC standards.

Actually, that's not terribly large, nor is it an uncommon studio size in NYC. NYBits might not get you much in terms of advertising, but if you're looking for actual price info, it beats Craigslist by a mile.

There's a huge difference btwn advertised sq footage and usable area. I've lived in 4 small places over the last 11 years, and have probably looked at 100+ small apts, so I know this market fairly well. The difference I'm referring to is MUCH more noticable in a small place, where every square inch counts (btw, my guideline for "small" is generally under 500 sq ft).
