GOP, U.S. Chamber Of Commerce Beat Back Bill To Combat Outsourcing Senate Republicans beat back an effort by Democrats Tuesday to end tax breaks for companies who send jobs offshore only to import products back into the United States. The House has passed a series of similar legislation over the past several weeks, as Democrats work to portray Republicans as in the pocket of Big Business at the expense of workers, the economy, the trade deficit and the budget deficit. That message was muddied, however, by the defection of four Democrats and Independent Democrat Joe Lieberman, who voted against the motion to end a filibuster. "I wish this election would be a simple referendum on this issue," Dick Durbin, the Senate's number two Democrat, said on the Senate floor Monday night. "Who in the world believes that we should be rewarding corporations in our country for shipping jobs overseas?" The U.S. Chamber of Commerce is one powerful answer to Durbin's query. The Chamber, which represents businesses in the United States, has aggressively battled the effort to reduce outsourcing. During the debate over the stimulus, the U.S. Chamber fought efforts to include a provision that would encourage taxpayer money to be spent on products made by domestic companies. It opposed the outsourcing bill, arguing in a letter to the Senate that "the concept of economic growth is not a zero-sum game. Replacing a job that is based in another country with a domestic job does not stimulate economic growth or enhance the competitiveness of American worldwide companies." http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2010/09/28/gop-chamber-of-commerce_n_741970.html More proof that the US Chamber of Commerce is nothing more of a cancer that needs to be stopped. So how again do Republicans plan to create jobs in the US if they take back control of Congress? [less]

Sanders slams Chamber, NAM in opposing outsourcing bill
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) on Tuesday blasted the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) for opposing legislation that attempts to in-source jobs by granting companies a payroll tax holiday that shift overseas jobs to the U.S. and limits the use of tax deferral.
"Of course they are [opposed]," Sanders told reporters. "They much prefer paying people in Vietnam 20 cents an hour than American workers a living wage."

Has w67thstreet held a job since finishing at Dean Witter Reynolds and not being offered a chance to stay?
Hell, Fiorina, Romney, and Whitman DIRECTLY moved US jobs overseas while running HP, eBay, and Bain Capital. If that sort of thing upsets you. Its definitely hurting the two women in the California polls. That and Whitman having been on the Goldman board. Right or wrong, its hurting them.
Yes, thank goodness Whitman and Fiorina are behind in the polls. Of the two, I absolutely despise Fiorina. At least Whitman did not get FIRED from her job like Fiorina.
Brown leads Whitman, Boxer leads Fiorina in Times/USC poll

And Whitman is such a coward. Rather than respond to a heckler herself, she had Chris Christie do her dirty work for her. If she can't even take on hecklers, how is she supposed to take on the state legislature?

We outsource science, technology, and engineering jobs, and then we ask ourselves why Americans are not pursuing these fields.
If you can't outsource then the local company is at a disadvantage against foreign supplied goods. What's the Democratic solution here? Quotas and Tariffs?
If people don't have jobs, how can they afford to buy those foreign supplied goods?
And yet another Republican business person is behind in the polls:

Anti-Government Tea Partier Sharron Angle Gets Health Care from the Federal Government
Like many Tea Party candidates, Sharron Angle has called for a repeal of the health care act. Last week, Angle made headlines when she mocked mandated health coverage for autism treatment.
Politico reports today that Angle and her husband actually receive health care from the federal government:
Angle’s campaign acknowledged to Nevada journalist Jon Ralston Monday that both the candidate and her husband receive health care from the federal government. Spokeswoman Ciara Matthews said in a statement: “Mr. Ted Angle receives his pension through the (federal) Civil Service Retirement System. While it is not supplemented by the federal government, current civil servants pay into the program to pay the schedule of those already retired – much like how the Social Security Program works today. Mr. Angle does not qualify – nor does he receive Social Security benefits. His health insurance plan (the Federal Employee Health Program), which also covers Sharron, is a continuation of what he was receiving while he worked for the federal government.”

The solution is not tarriffs or quotas, its allow unlimited immigration for those with PhDs from US universities, while also VASTLY improving the public school system here (without spending more money - see the 21-25 OECD nations ahead of us in school test scores.) Clearly Germany, Singapore, the Scandies, Canada, and Australia, among others, show you can be FAR more "socialist" than not only Obama but than Bernie Sanders and still have a highly skilled and competitive labor force.
Why do we need more PhDs? We have more than enough by every measure. Many PhDs have trouble getting faculty jobs so adding more to the mix will only make things worse.
