Classic sofa at 22nd street reupholstered my sofa (150") and did a good job. Many fabric samples, courteous and timely.

I used Zarin Fabrics (ask for Judy) and they did a nice job on my rocking chair. The are in the LES.

Lore Decorators at 120th and 3rd Ave do great work and I have used them twice to upholster chairs. I know you asked for downtown, but they'll come down, give you a quote and pick up your furniture if you can't lug it all the way uptown. 2201 Third Avenue (120th)- 212.534.2170.

I've read that Furniture Joint in the East Village does a good job.

isabel4444 i too am looking to reupholster a couple of ottomans, was it a reasonable price? i know it depends on the fabric but i also don't want to spend more than the ottomans cost. I got them from Ethan Allen a couple of years ago and we never sit on them, but i just don't like the color

movinup1 it really depends on the fabric that you chose. Call them up and ask how much fabric you would need
to cover the ottomans. They weren't cheap, but they did a fabulous job.
I would use them again.

I have an excellent guy who does slipcovers (not upholstery) which is a good option if all you need is to freshen up a piece without changing the innards. This guy does amazing work--his slipcovers are so well tailored that they look more like true upholstery than removable covers. He's normally to the trade only (and his rates are amazing) but he also does work for non-trade clients.

If interested in his contact info, please email me at bramstar at gmail dot com.

If you're upholstering a curvaceous piece, Bob recommends sticking to solid-colored fabrics. “Patterns or textures with a distinctive direction ...
