Discussion about
Anyone know of a spray paint shop convenient to the UWS? North NJ or Bk or Bx or Qns? Looking to spray paint some Ikea cabinet doors.

Janovic doesn't carry spray paint? Or do you mean a send-out spray painting service?

Also, all the kook kids are taking their furniture and cubboard doors to auto body shops to have car paint put on them. I think you can even get royal blue sparkly paint with a perfect ultragloss topcoat ... only the best for you!

Send-out spray painting service. I'm being inspired by http://carolreeddesign.blogspot.com/2010/06/painting-ikea-kitchen-cabinets.html

Krylon - 4.99 per can.

Buy a $40 Ikea door, take it up to the roof and try it.

Sanding is everything, it's all about the prep work. (and sanding ain't fun)

Every other part of the country does housepainting with airgun/sprayer powertool type thingees, not rollers or brushes. You can probably find a painter with experience using those on doors and the like. You pick the paint. F&B yes, but don't expect to be able to find royal blue sparkly paint from them.

The doors might have to be primed poplar (non-Ikea) to eliminate sanding. I just want to drop off at a shop somewhere to eliminate mess at home.

Second opinion: auto shops in the Hunts Point / Bruckner Blvd. area of the Bronx. While you're at it, call one of the antique stores in that area and see what they have to say.

pointing is very pretty. But if you don't prime them first, they will peel within a year.

Yes. An apartmenttherapy thread I read recently had unanimous agreement that priming is essential ... one person suggested that lacquer-based primer is best, no reason given.

Forgive my ignorance, can someone explain what is F & B pointing? a style? a color? a method?

there are many amazing superbonding primers available these days
believe it or not i painted over the ugliest woodgrain formica as a stopgap, and it's held up very well as a temporary aesthetic fix until i gut this property
the primer smelled toxic as hell--opened all windows, placed fans

I don't miss my woodworking days in college.
Worked for a carpenter sanding and painting.
First with 80 paper, then 180, and then 600 paper. Then a coat of varathane, again 600 paper and another coat of varathane.

Tedious as hell but it looked great.
