Discussion about
I will be renovating my kitchen and want to use Silestone countertops. However, I have the typical small NYC galley kitchen and was told by several Silestone dealers that they will only sell and/or install a minimum square footage which is often at least double what I need. One dealer did tell me that they sell 3/4" thickness Silestone, which is thinner than the "standard" 1 1/4" thickness, and aside from the lower price, there is no minimum on sales/installation. Has anyone out there used the thinner Silestone for a kitchen countertop, and do you find it to be durable? Thanks.

I installed Silestone in my kitchen and LOVE IT! It's strong and looks great. I have a small kitchen too and had no problems ordering it for my kitchen. My contractor had to buy it through Home Depot though.

A rep from Silestone came and measured my kitchen and I believe I have the "normal" thickness. I picked out Capri Limestone and it looks wonderful.

I would suggest that you should consider an undermount sink to make the most of your counter space. Kohler makes a nice sized "entertainment" one. However, for NYC small kitchens, it's deep enough (9.5") and big enough for washing the biggest dutch oven pans without splash out.

Also, another big factor in making a little kitchen seem bigger....go with smaller-scaled appliances. Sure a 20" oven doesn't give you many choices (there's only a few models..and they are basic) as well as a 24" wide fridge and 20" dishwasher. However, when you pair all of these together they all match and make the kitchen proportioned. You'd be surprise how much you'd be able to cook and entertain with this style set-up.

Good luck!!
