Discussion about
“The Founding Fathers originally said, they put certain restrictions on who gets the right to vote. It wasn’t you were just a citizen and you got to vote. Some of the restrictions, you know, you obviously would not think about today. But one of those was you had to be a property owner. And that makes a lot of sense, because if you’re a property owner you actually have a vested stake in the community. If you’re not a property owner, you know, I’m sorry but property owners have a little bit more of a vested interest in the community than non-property owners.” http://moneywatch.bnet.com/saving-money/blog/home-equity/tea-party-dont-let-renters-vote/3350/
Actually, it was up to the states as to who could vote. The constitution was clear on that. So the FOUNDERS said no such thing. Total fabrication.
In most states, yes property owners were the ones who could vote - but it was WEALTHY property owners, not ALL. As in 1-10% of all citizens, depending on the location. So the vast majority of Tea Partiers would not be wealthy enough to vote. Also, female tea partiers. Also, baptists. Also, Catholics. Also, Jews. Also, a few tea partiers would be slaves.
Basically, by this guy's standards, only Episcopalian, Lutheran, or Presbyterian white males who in today's terms make more than $250,000 a year would be allowed to vote and hold office.
And since most homeowners are white and older, this is a clever way for the Teabaggers to suppress the minority and youth vote since they mostly want open immigration.
