(1) Streeteasy (2) UrbanDigs (3) The Real Deal (4) Curbed (5) The Apple Peeled (6) NY Times (7) Corcoran (8) TrueGotham - though Doug is not posting enough (9) Gothamist Anybody like others? Why?
Brick Underground is my favorite one-stop-shopping site ... its own content plus highlights from the ones you mentioned.
what is brick underground?
Hands down brick underground, then Adultfacebook for real estate/'social' networking. Be sure to google both.
been there once or twice but I'll have to check it out. thx alanhart.
Streeteasy...there is no substitute
I don't see Brick as being very useful(Alan just plugging A.R.. They essentially promote select apartments(not clear if they are paid or think it's filler for their site). Based on the comments section, no real hits. Real Deal has lots of rehashed news articles but it is a convenient "go to" source. Urban offers interesting insights, has some cool analytics. NY Times Real Estate section is not real news, so other than their listings, I don't see much value. Curbed used to be better..
Surprised nobody mentioned Observer's site or Crains.
what took you so long, RS? i would have expected your negativity to have arrived much earlier. slacker.
ar, I don't claim to know what the beef between you and RS is about, but his comment was more than fair. Just an opinion.
bjw, why? i actually try to find units that i think represent a good value. do you know how hard that is? many things wind up closing at a discount to asking, but to find things that are listed at a decent price? and i won't post if i don't find something.
besides, it's three items weekly, out of about 30, 10%.
btw, we are not paid for those three posts.
ar, I have nothing against Brick. It seems like a decent site actually. I just don't get the needless animosity going on on these threads.
then why did you add to animosity by citing as fair redbaiter's post which says brick is not a decent site, and which discredits AH's positive comment as plugging?
bjw2103, what part of RS's comment seemed "more than fair"? Her dictating what my favorite site should be, or why I have some hidden agenda in stating a site that I don't *actually* like? That profiling apartments equates in her estimate to "promoting" them? That (much like Crains) Brick Underground's articles don't garner a lot of comments? (In sharp contrast to curbed, which can be good *despite* its comments section.)
Animosity? I thought it was a fair post - not one I necessarily agree with, but if we're going to start going after people for posting their opinions, this board's usefulness will crash harder than any real estate market.
why the animosity? look at what he wrote, "they essentially promote select apartments." well, no, essentially we don't. we look for a few decent deals weekly, in all price ranges, throughout the city, to give examples of what is available. i wouldn't say that 10% of our content is "essentially"
why the animosity? because RS is fully incapable of telling the truth, misrepresents just about everything, and feels the need to passive-agressively make little digs, thinking it is clever. and then if there is a response, i'm allegedly following him around, answering his every post. there aren't enough hours in the day to respond to every RS post, i know, about a year ago i tried.
ar, just my 2 cents, but I think you would have been better off explaining the bit about the "select apartments" the first time around. I didn't mean for this to turn into a whole discussion, but frankly, I'm pretty turned off by all this stuff, and I've been a regular for longer than anyone on this thread other than alanhart. I can only imagine how a newbie would feel reading this.
bjw, you have your own animosity thing going on, you know.
And RS didn't tell me what my favorite RE site is, just which one it isn't, so where does that leave me?
I like to read http://patrick.net/housing/crash.html in the morning.
Yeah - I didn't say you shouldn't respond to anything ever. But this "passive-aggressive" stuff is a wee-bit sensitive. And I'd like to think I've stayed away from some of the needless back-and-forth in the past few months, but thanks.
And RS did ding a number of other sites. Was he being passive aggressive with them too?
do you see RS here defending the comment? no, of course not. passive-agressive. serpentine.
Defend what? Your mishigas?
btw, bjw, i have noticed a reduction in activity in your personal altercations, and that's great. but as you must be aware, sometimes it is very obvious when someone is trying to stick a needle in your eye, metaphorically speaking.
"sometimes it is very obvious when someone is trying to stick a needle in your eye, metaphorically speaking."
I know and agree - some people are indeed insufferable. I wish I hadn't said anything now, but not knowing what the animosity has really been about, your comment struck me as harsh. I do value your presence on this board though, in case there was any doubt.
Ar, you are such a sad sad person. Stop. You really should take a long long break from all the internet invective. Do something useful. And bring cc with you.
Otherwise, I think property shark is hands down the most useful re website out there.
Surprised Calculated Risk and Housing Wire didn't make the cut.
Although I think aboutready has added much value to this site, I think her rebuke was uncalled for.
new2RE, first of all, thanks for the comment generally. but if you wrote for a site (in my case, BrickUnderground) and someone who has perpetually misrepresented what you write, did so, would you respond? and how so?
and if someone is blatantly misrepresenting what is occurring, is the rebuke uncalled for?
All streeteasy people must say they like BrickUnderground, otherwise you will be shunned on streeteasy by the 'in' crowd.
Calculated Risk has been one of the best resources to track the changes in mtg lending and the state of the economy overall. I miss Tanta!
i miss tanta too, but recently bill, although he has great charts and follows some of the more unusual indicators, has had very little original content.
I enjoy calculated risk attribution of "true" source articles, which offer a unique view of the economy.
yes, but most of those have nothing to do with nyc real estate. or even real estate generally.
the ata tonnage report is interesting to some, and to me, but not to many SE readers.
rail traffic is equally good.
I agree with jim_hones10: There's propertyshark, and then there's everything else.
you agree with jimboner? really?
a sad, sad day
