You are correct, poor people should not eat chocolate on my tax dollars, let alone imported chocolate. let them buy bread, milk and beans with my dollars.

I am sure this person had designer clothes and a handful of rings as well. maybe things in this state would be cheaper (taxes, rent, food) if not for the "poor"

Steve -- think of them as buying calories. One could argue ferraro delivers plenty o calories per stamp

Tax dollars to buy chocolate? Not domestic, not imported.

Not filet mignon, either.

Poor people can buy anything they want - just not on my dime.

@stevejhx

Y'know, there is actually already a list of which items may, or may not, be purchased with food stamps. So, there's really no need for you to have your snoot in anyone else's shopping cart. By the way candy is considered a "food item," and is therefore "eligible."

@Apt_Boy

The New York State Food Stamp Program, known Federally as the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program(SNAP)...(Yes! "Supplemental,") helps low-income WORKING people, seniors, the disabled and others feed their families. So, their tax dollars are at work, right alongside yours.

They are not allowed to buy beer, wine, liquor, cigs or tobacco, but they routinely 'trade' their benefits for those items...so don't fool yourself, there is a complete underground black-market for the trading of food stamps

and buyer et al...if you are so happy to assist these needy, please offer to pay my share of taxes that is allocated for these services as i have no interest in doing so

Hundreds of billions of dollars down the crapper every year, trillions in debt, and you're worrying about people buying candy instead of government-surplus cheese?

I say let them buy vitamins (store brand) and hold the chocolates.

Vitamins are water soluble and people who take vitamins are literally throwing their money in the toilet. Chocolate or vitamins it goes to the same place. Maybe dark chocolate would have health benefits.
