It's in my house in NJ, so it is separate.

It's also a front loader washing machine. They make the exact version in a stackable form.

I heard that combo units are no good because then you are putting twice amount of wear and tear on the motor since you use the machine as both your washer and dryer.

This past year we were in a rental while doing a gut renovation on a new coop. The rental included a Bosch washer/dryer which we really loved (prior to all this we had had an Asko set and we were happy with them for 10 years although I remember that they were pricey to buy). So when we finally finished our renovation and had to buy a washer/dryer set of our own for our new coop, and after checking options at all price levels, including the Miele and Asko at higher prices, we chose Bosch. By the way, the dryer is self-venting.

The Bosch features I love -- an audible but optional signal when the wash and/or dry cycles are done, the chance to set the drying at various levels, being able to do delicate/hand washables at shorter cycles, being able to set hot/cold/warm water washer temp levels. Clothes and linens really turn out clean and easy to iron. And both appliances are energy star rated.

As to where to buy -- we shopped around all over NYC for selection and price and ended up buying from an online source -- us-appliance.com. We had a flawless experience with them: easy to order, no problem with purchase, and an easy delivery. Paying no sales tax is a big $$ savings. We accepted delivery and our contractor and plumber opened the crates, unloaded the appliances, and installed. We also bought a "stack kit" which helps frame the 2 appliances into a single unit, including a shelf that sits in between the washer and dryer that pulls out for stacking finished laundry.

Don't forget to buy the extended service contract. The washer/dryer are the appliances that inevitably need care and repair before any other appliances. The cost for a service contract, in my experience, is ALWAYS worth the extra cost.

Remember that in most NYC apartment buildings you now must install an alarm pan that turns off the water in the event of a leak. Any plumber that works in NYC buildings knows about these systems. They add about $500 to $1000 to the cost of your installation.

Good luck!

I bought mine from Best Buy. If you want to save money, go into any of the big box stores, and there is a good chance they will have discounted floor models you can buy.

Have a Bosch stackable washer and condenser dryer that I love. Appliances are quiet and wash and dry well. Only repair needed after 6 years was replacing the washer's LED panel when it malfunctioned after I had a couple of washes with excess suds--I learnt my lesson!

NOTES:
-- Had to upgrade my electric to 220-240v before installing my Bosch W/D so make sure your current electrical outlets match the electrical needs of whatever washer & dryer you buy.

-- With a condensing dryer you have to periodically clean out the interior lint trap else it won't dry items well.

-- If you buy an appliance online, you can use a service such as AM Home Delivery 718-272-5900 www.amtrucking.com to install it.

Best of luck!

The good thing about LG is that it is designed better than most washers. It has no belt, so there is less to break. When I bought it in 2005, LG was the only one with ths design.

I am amazed at how much i love my Miele units. The washing machine is the best i have ever owned in terms of washing and handling the clothes. the dryer is self vented but on the 'sturdy' cycle which i use for hardy items completely dries towels etc.

How much did the Miele machines cost? Aren't they super super expensive?

They were expensive and a premium over the Bosch. But i read all the industry reviews, etc and wanted this to be a purchase that would last a long time and hopefully picked the right machines. interestingly enough, our building would only allow me to buy either the bosch or the meile because of their water/suds specs. And as i said, the washing machine does a phenomenal job.

I have Bosch at my weekend house and Miele in our apartment. Neither are stacked, but both could be, although at the house we have the larger units. Both are vented. The Miele were more expensive, but not terribly so. The Miele are in my view the best there is, and worth the price. We got the Bosh at the house primarily because of the capacity because of pool and beach towels. But the Miele cleans like no other. There is not a lot of price competition on the Miele. We got our fron Gringer in the east village. The Bosch can be bought anywhere. Ours came from Lowes.

Your building told you that you can only buy the 2 most expensive washing machines on the market? I would tell them to go f themself.

socialist...i had to get permission to put a w/d in the butler pantry area of the old kitchen using a drain that was there. normally the building doesn't allow w/ds at all so using expletives was not an option!
