Hello Peanut,

Just like anything else prices vary. I have some designers who get $300.00 and hour and some that charge $150.00hr. I also have some that get 30% of the whole project including overseeing the construction.

What are you looking to do? That would help in seeing what you might need

we were quoted a flat project fee plus 30% on top of trade goods and 20% on top of services. Does this sound reasonable?

It depends on what it is. How much is the flat project fee? What is the project? Is the 30% on top of retail or after their discount?

Peanut-
I would say 25-35% on top of furnishings, and to manage the project, etc is standard. Not sure why a flat fee for the project though. However drawings would be $750 and up depending on how much detailed specs are in the drawing.

I can reccommend Design by Francois - www.francoistenenbaum.com if you are still looking.

$750? is that for a closet? most drawings for an apartment renovation are at least $2,500.00 thats why I ask what kind of project. Generally buildings require drawings for a bigger project. For instance, if you are just renovating bathrooms and a kitchen, as long as you are keeping the fixtures in the same spot you would not need drawings.

I am finding that more and more designers and architects are charging by the hour rather then a % of the whole project.

$750 is for a drawing for a concept with no specs involved. $2,500 would be for a drawing where the designer took the measurements with specs for the contractor.

Even $750 for a concept is high, I can have photo renditions done for the same price and instead of a concept drawing you would have a photo of the exact space as it would look finished. (Price is subject to change)
