We're planning a renovation that involves major floorplan changes. The changes will require new flooring in areas underneath to-be-demolished walls or to-be-annexed from an oddly-shaped bathroom. Our existing floor is parquet, about 30 years old, and good quality though in need of refinishing. How terrible will it look to patch the parquet and then sand & stain the existing floors? Would a darker stain work significantly better than a lighter stain? Due to the extent of the floorplan changes, there will be 2 areas that need light patching (one row of parquet) and 2 areas that need extensive (probably 5 rows by 5 rows) patching. This is already a budget-busting renovation, so I'd prefer not to put down new floors. (Plus, I actually like the parquet.) But if this is going to look awful, I'd rather cut somewhere else and replace the floors while we're moved out. Any experience/advice? [less]
Hello Lad,
In my experience the floors if done correctly should look fine. However, I always tell my clients it is better to do the floors now and hold off on something else. Once you move in you will never do the floors unless you are willing to move all your furniture and your family out.
Anything else in your home can be done later.
Agree with Primer. Almost anything else can be done later on. Floors are a huge pain.
lol, just me personally but ....use this as an excuse to put soem real floors in. :)
