Corporate tax rate lowered to 15%

Yesterday, the Icelandic government declared that it would lower the corporate tax rate to 15%. The change applies to the fiscal year 2008 and comes into effect on tax returns filed in 2009. The tax reduction is a clear sign that the government wants to continue on this path of making the Icelandic business environment among the most competitive in the world by focusing on a simple and effective overall tax system with low corporate tax, instead of creating complicated incentives.

American Drug company wants to build research facility. They can build it anywhere. They build it in Ireland or Bermuda because tax rates are lower there. They then allocate costs using a sophisticated black box that even the all mighty IRS is hard pres to figure out. Then the United Stated in its wisdom pays a company to build an uneconomic electric car in the U.S.

Simple solution. Get rid of the subsidies and lower the gross corporate tax tax rate.

Boy you are dumb socialist. The total revenue would be unchanged. This means the EFFECTIVE rate would be the same. Lower the statutory rate, eliminate loopholes. Read stories before you post them, dummy.

No it would not. It assumes the companies that build in the u.s. as a result of the subsidy equals the companies that do not as the result of the u.s. taxing too high. I would argue that the subsidies promote for the most part uneconomic businesses and the businesses the activity targeted for outside the u.s. of more value(from both a tax and a jobs perspective)

That's absolutely right: reward risk, job creation and growth.

"They build it in Ireland or Bermuda because tax rates are lower there."

Do you really want to be using Ireland as an example?

"this is how you create jobs and get urself reelected."

Angering the liberal base and having them stay home on election day gets you re-elected?

"stcok market goes through the roof when this happens."

How do you explain the 11% rise in the DOW over the last 12 months? The corporate tax rate was NOT lowered.

Less risk than anticipated? Better returns than anticipated?

Obama said he wants to lower the statutory rate WITHOUT CHANGING THE AMOUNT OF REVENUE BROUGHT IN by corporate taxes. Why are you arguing this point?
