Our family is moving to NYC in June 2011. We are very excited. We have two 9 yr old boys, and one 3yr old mutt, that has the colorings of a Rottweiler, but the body of a small lab,(small head, long legs) and the personality of a velcro dog,(who's main goal is to receive pets and give kisses 24/7 to whomever he meets, big dog, little dog, big people, little people, etc). He's probably around 70lbs and will have received his canine good citizen rating by the time we move. We found on our dog on craigslist, and we could careless if he is a mutt, as he is part of our family, but worry now that our dreams of living in the city will vanish simply because we own a large breed pet. By the way, we are stellar pet owners, we always bring bags for clean-up, water for the dog, water to water down his urine in a public spot, our dog knows hand commands, and bottom line we are of the belief that just because we love our dog, doesn't mean everyone else needs to, and thus, he needs to be trained well. We are able to spend up to $4500/mo for a place. We'd prefer to pay a bit less, but bottom line, we need to find a safe place, that is pet friendly and has a decent area school. Ideally, and while writing this I chuckle... we'd like 3BD, 2BA and 1000sq ft. We'd settle for 2 true bedrooms and 1.5 baths and 1000sq ft. We're coming from just shy of 4000sq ft, so we really would like to not have to go much smaller than 1000sq feet. We'd like to live somewhere close to the #1 line, as my husband will have to utilize it for work. We are all looking foward to not needing a car, walking to many wonderful parks for outdoor entertainment and exercise, and simply soaking up all the NYC has to offer. We really don't want to have to live in the burbs and commute just because we have a bigger dog. If anyone has any advice/leads on buildings that are pro-large dog, please let me know. Thanks kindly- Nell [less]

This is a pet friendly building: http://www.corcoran.com/property/listing.aspx?Region=NYC&listingid=2109604. So is 275 w 96th street. So is 210 w 101 street and its a "no fee" building. This neighborhood offers a dog run at 103, and also 88th. Before 9 am you can have your dog off leash in the parks and there are several "play groups" who meet up each morning. It's a really nice community. I have 3 dogs...70 pounds is not so big! I'm a broker who does mostly sales, but if you any questions, I'm happy to answer them. nshipley@randny.com
Your dog sounds just like mine...except my girl is a bit smaller. While a lot of buildings have size restrictions in place, you should also be aware of "breed restrictions." I would be sure to describe your pooch as a "mix," and leave it at that!
really? This is not spam? This is the third time you have posted this.
Perhaps we can confine responses to one thread? This is the one most people already responded to: http://streeteasy.com/nyc/talk/discussion/24641-pro-big-dog-rental-buildings
Jason,
I'm baffled and amazed and honestly find it quite comical that you would become so mifted about someone posting incorrectly as a newbie to this site.
You're right, I first posted this under sales, and thought I hit the rentals button, but mistyped.
Being new to this site, it doesn't upload your first post ASAP, so when I didn't see it right away, I wasn't certain what the deal was, so then I changed the name and hit the rentals button, but then I back spaced to see something, and then came forward and didn't change the button to rentals once again and it posted again in sales. You can verify this by looking at the times that to original posts were uploaded. I did finally get it correct and posted it in rentals. Where people have been commenting quite nicely and honestly about their POV's and acutal dealings with various landlords/building/management companies.
Thank-you Kyle for posting the correct link.
Yorkville is near a dog park and they have large apartments in your price range.
Julia,
Thank-you, I'm finding although my dog doesn't possess the physical features of a traditional/standard AKC Rottweiler,= robust chest, blocky head, stocky body/shorter legs, (in fact he is the opposite, narrow head, long legs, lean chest) he still has the adorable markings of a Rottie,= all black, cute rust eyebrows and rust on his paws and chest, and thus he'll be considered a full Rottie and an agressive breed, and he's over 50lbs, so I'm afraid I'm going to have to look in Riverdale, where my husband will be working.
Thanks again-
Nell
