Discussion about
Police in Queens are on the hunt for a suspect after a deadly shooting Saturday. It happened around 1:30 a.m outside the Queensbridge Houses in Long Island City. Police say the victim, a 39-year-old man, was shot once in the left shoulder at the corner of 41st Avenue and 12th Street. He was taken to Cornell Medical Center where he was pronounced dead on arrival. http://www.ny1.com/content/top_stories/133061/suspect-sought-in-deadly-queens-shooting Well, maybe the Queensbridge Houses are actually in Astoria. HAHAHAHA!

"That's a VERY CLEVER COMPARISON, Jason! Now, divide by the population and get back to me."

It is based on population your fucking asshole. Its crimes per capita.

report abuse I told you in the Harlem thread Jason, your reports are flawed because half of Manhattan and Jersey hang out in Chelsea on Week ends. You have to look at the traffic in the neighborhood. Chelsea see its population at least doubling on W/E's. Harlem? Certainly not!

this thread is pretty f*cking tragic, imo, but i have to laugh at that. are you saying that it makes a diiference where the criminals come from? like, being mugged by a person from nj or li would not only constitute a crime against your person, but also against your ego as a manhattanite? that's hilarious!

sunday? are you at all curious if these posters stop black people in their neighborhoods and demand to know what they're doing there? or you're cool?

"aboutready, alan and steve all love telling lies about me.

For the record, I have never initiated any criticism of anyone else's neighborhood, or any personal attack on anyone on this board."

that's the funniest thing i've read here, ever.

Personally, I thought Alanhart's comment about the wardrobe by Botany 500 was funnier.

Lucille, I think he is actually saying the VICTIMS are from out of the neighborhood, thus distorting the ratio. Not the perps. But now that I think about it, both the numerator AND denomintor get skewed, so it perhaps cancels out. In any event, Harlem in 10027 & 10029 both have below the US national average crime rate. So this "out of town" argument cannot work for the entire country.

It is interesting how unaware are aboutready, steve, and alanhart regarding others' views and opinions about them. They have 3 or 4 vocal cheerleaders so they seem to think they have common views, when in reality most normal people who read these threads see their comments as nasty, low-level and inane.

oh i see. i just remember reading that a major issues in the party neighborhoods was they imported not only party people, but also those who prey in them. so i guess i agree with you that where both parties came from shouldn't matter, only that the crime occured.

on an unrelated note, does anyone know what happened to idea of turning the garment district into the party district?

It is not about disagreeing. I think bjw makes excellent comments even though I don't always disagree. I respect bjw's analysis as it is always well-reasoned, intelligent and presented respectfully. Same with inonada and some others with whom I at times disagree. steve, aboutready and alan rarely make POSITIVE contributions. They attack, are hateful, are juvenile, and very rarely provide logical, intelligent or factual commentary.

As if I would be worried about what somebody who lives in Long Island City thinks about me.

Really, LICCdope, your opinion of yourself is outsized, and unwarranted.

i'm not saying they're nice people. they aren't. but they contribute facts and opinion from a point of view that clearly resonates with many people who had the proclivity to recognize and understand the massive housing bubble, while still really needing a house. for me, they are a voice for frustrated responsible people, and those people deserve a voice. even a bitchy, hypocritical and sometimes just bizarre voice. why do you even care how they conduct themselves? that's who they are. be who you are, conduct yourself the way you were raised and know is right, and don't worry about anyone else. didn't mom teach you that the true measure of a good upbringing is how you react to a bad one? don't take things so personally.

That would be the Newtown Creek, bjw, that divides your house from LICCdope's?

"at this point you have made it crystal clear that there is little in this world you actually care about."

Untrue. I am deeply concerned that they have cut the number of cookies per box of Girl Scout Cookies, AND raised the price at the same time. My nieces are ripping me off.

Steve, by your definition of the words "anywhere near," I am not "anywhere near" the Newtown Creek, but yes, that is the area I reference. And yes, my comment still stands.

OFF THREAD...

To take issue with Long Island City is a mistake. It reminds me of women that hate their own ass. I've never seen an ass I didn't love. I will admit that there are some too big for the love I have inside of me, so we share. LIC is in your face, it's on the water, it comprises the view from midtown. It is part of us...like an ass, an ass worthy of love. Early pioneers did not venture across this great land in search of safety and comfort. It was action, adventure and the potential to carve out a brighter future that drove them to make sacrifice. It is they who take the risk and it is the eastside of Manhattan that receives the better view. When I see a struggling Manhattan young professional couple with their second baby I say," GO EAST YOUNG MAN, GO EAST"! Why lose the tax base to NJ or Nassau co.

Which brings me to the Newtown creek.

My plan is to introduce the notion that there is some kind of mutant prehistoric Loc ness type monster in the creek. All we need is a few hysterical false sightings and someone handy with photo shop...the cooperation of the POST...a phenomena is born. They will flock to the creek like the Statue of Liberty, cameras at the ready to glimpse a view of our own 'Nessy'. Tourist shops will open, walkways bordering the creek, outdoor restaurants, decontamination showers, etc. With a slight push we will see the golden age of the east bank.

LICC -- Man up and quit complaining. If you are going to extol the virtues of an area, be prepared for criticism and for it to be caustic, this being NY and all. Just because the posts don't meet your standards for discussion (or your sense of humor, ie lack of it) doesn't mean they are inherently wrong. It is the same problem I have with people sniffing about "vulgar" language. You should be more concerned about trolls attacking people with false accusations than with a little sauciness from the kids.

I want to rename Long Island City.
When one conjures images of Long Island it starts at the Nassau/Queens boarder.
Surely a city of that name would be out there somewhere.
Astoria was named for the Astor family with the intention to lend panache to the area, attracting residents. So let's rename LIC and through something as simple as re-branding we can continue the drive to make this area, formally known as LIC, into a jewel, sans it's toxic pedigree.

Ideas???

Vulgar like "oh snap" and "effed up". Where does "delicate flower" fit in to your definition of vulgar?

>You should be more concerned about trolls attacking people with false accusations than with a little sauciness from the kids.

False accusations? Recently someone accused me of explicitly stating I was a lawyer, when I never stated such a thing.

Hey, off topic- how come you (MidtowerEast, that is) aren't posting at all on the "Virgin post! Calling all finance geniuses/trolls" thread?
