http://www.cnbc.com/id/41369820 The prices of steel, copper and aluminum — key components in many products — have all crept higher over the past three months amid growing signs that North America and Europe are joining the emerging markets in putting the recent recession behind them. Copper, which is used in cables, wires and all kinds of electrical products, as well as in plumbing and heating applications, has risen the most, jumping more than 15 percent over the past three months. My High End Analysis: Will cost more to build new apartments so the value of your property increases. Not looking for a fight bears just posting some info for those who would like to use it. So, debate the thread information not what I'm about :) [less]
And onions ... don't forget about onions.
oil?
what percentage of the average manhattan apartment valued at $1.5 million is made up of steel, copper and aluminum? 1%?
well cc. Simply, I would say 100% b/c w/o the steel there's not apt.
Great! The statue of Liberty is now worth more $ ! May be Bloomberg can use it as a collateral the city's budget deficit!
ericho..commodity bull. what's your take? Future impact of Russia, China, India??
And price of latex is up 400%, I guess that means the rate of AIDS is going up?

Absolutely, streeteasypost ... cooking oil. Onions, cooking oil, and, let's say, for example, coconuts.

alanhart - now I'm hungry, dammit!
Sorry, streeteasypost, you'll have to eat your chapatis with salt and green chillies, that's all. It's very difficult.
Can I add some garlic?
Stevef asking Ericho advice is like two pedophiles asking each other how to raise wholesome little children.
Man u guys don't have much to do. Do ya? Constantly here. I guess we could you people the shut-ins.
they call it deflation
"well cc. Simply, I would say 100% b/c w/o the steel there's not apt."
This is some of the dubmest logic I've ever heard.
Without flooring, there is no apartment. Is that 100% of the value, too?
"Man u guys don't have much to do. Do ya? Constantly here. I guess we could you people the shut-ins."
Project much?
Remember, SteveF is much cooler, because he posts his nonsense on *multiple* boards.
"Project much?" ... do you mean the noun or the verb?
stevie, stop watching The Producers or you'll end up upside down like they did....
Why do we have 1800 threads on commodity prices, and where were you when they were plunging a year ago? Still saying "inflation!" even though the above prices were all down. Commodities do not equal everything we buy. Real estate, wages, technology, productivity...these are are all factors.
> were you when they were plunging a year ago?
Screaming "apartment prices are going up!" (when they were actually tanking)
;-)
what is the problem?? Higher costs to build apartments means higher prices to buy apartments. Inflation and real estate are happily married. They go hand in hand. But let's also not forget that nothing is being built and the economy is firing...can you say "The Perfect Storm"
So if I undertand this economic theory correctly, prices for apartments are not determined by the market but by sellers based on their input costs?
A little knowledge is truly a dangerous thing.
Damn, does anyone dare explain it to the guy who just wouldn't get it anyway?
> A little knowledge is truly a dangerous thing.
I know... how much money has been flushed down the tubes by guys like SteveF...
well, granted, it ends up with guys like me, so I can't really complain.
;-)
No, its labour. 100%. Marx taught me that.
