Any suggestions on where to look for tiles in the metro NYC/NJ area?

It sort of depends on the look you're going for. Nemo Tile for more modern/classic trending; Country Floors for more, um, involved decoration. Quality Tile in the Bronx for lowest prices and huge selection in a madhouse environment -- nice and helpful but way overburdened sales staff.

We really liked going to the Architect and Design center on E 58th where there are a few different companies. you could see large installed groupings of tile and get a better idea of how a room would really look. We actually wound up buying all our tile for kitchen and three bathrooms at Hastings there. With the architect's discount, the prices were really comparable to what we could find elsewhere and the service was exceptional.

Anyone came across the green wall tiles (or something similar) in this picture?

I am having a difficult time in locating the tiles.

Bella Tile - Decent prices, nice, not overwhelming selection.
Complete Tile Collection, High prices, overwhelming, but beautiful selection.
I've used both and had positive experiences.

The green tiles in the picture seem to be either glass tiles or just a pale glaze. I'll bet Complete Tile has something comparable. They're in Chelsea.

myny I think broadbent is right about those tiles being glass - if you've been looking at ceramic that might have been the problem with your search.

Walker Zanger has the best showroom imho and a great online catalog, Ann Sacks, Daltile, and I'll second Nemo. They're all within a couple blocks of each other. Some say Artistic Tile but I've always had a hard time browsing through their stuff.

mynycse: Home Depot and Costco used to carry something very similar. Try google image search for "linear interlock glass tile"

I would go to Nemo Tile first. I think they have a great selection and are a pleasure to deal with.

Ask for Michael or Steven and tell them Jeff from Prime sent you. They will take care of you. If you want to let me know when and if you go I will get you my discount.

You can email me at primerenovations@mac.com

do you really endorse the quality of the selection at nemo tiles? the basic subway tiles they sell, at around $1.50 a square foot, are paper thin and look no better than the subway tiles at home depot. Personally, I think bathroom tiles is one place where it really pays to get a quality product--like subway tiles in the $12 a foot range. Cheap subway tiles make a bathroom look like a gym shower room.

I've been buying tile at Nemo for 20 years, in Queens not Manhattan. They have a good selection of tile , neither cheap nor cheesy. We have subway tile from Nemo in one of our bathrooms -- the Lanka line -- it's handmade tile, very thick and has held up really nicely.

The tile in the photo is glass tile that's sold in many places, including on the internet.

Happy,

Wow, you take one tile and that gives you the knowledge of all their lines? What about their tile that is $58.00 a sq ft? What about their porcelian tile? What about their other subway tile?

Thanks a lot everyone! I am thinking of using Akdo or Dal-Tile. Are these of good quality? Any brands I should avoid?

I do not like the customer service at Dal-tile. Delivery times were not what they said either. I am not familiar with Akdo

We have used tile from Dal-tile for a kitchen floor and it was good quality. We also bought a granite slab from the Dal-tile store in northern Jersey which was delivered on time and was good quality. We have had good luck with the brands Marazzi and Emser and with tile from Country Floors. We have also used slate tile from Vermont Floors that was excellent.
