Reads like the first chapter of a Dickens novel. What a fine collection of crooks.

The French buyer bought something else in the same building. She's trying to get back the money she plowed into the first apartment (without ever closing on it,) so the case will take a while.

Hard to understand why Mehl doesn't settle. It's not like the exposure is going to do him any favor, and the ruling already holds him at least partially responsible. Surely these fine people can find $150,000 between the 3 of them.

From the opinion the defendant attorney appears guilty of gtoss negligence for
releasing escrow funds before insuring good title, and for failing to secure a
filed lien for those funds before releasing them.
But that's not the most important issue, which is whether he had a pre-existing
business or personal relationship with the seller which prevented him from repre-\
senting his client in an appropriate manner.
If he did and ge cant prove timelt disclosure of it, he faces automatic suspension,
as well as serious punitive damages.
