Plus you have to LOVE the prissy, fussy, tasselled and be-swagged decor, since the broker says thats what you're paying for: "While the other great mansions that have come on the market in New York have been shells requiring total renovation, this is the only mansion to be formally available that has been fully renovated in a traditional prewar style. Which war is she talking about? The French Revolution? Also, it SOLD FOR $6 Mil just a few years ago. What kind of shyster froo-froo decorator did they get hooked up with that charged them 10's of millions for this mess? He's retired now, for sure. [less]
Trump on acid.
Zillow Zestimates its value at $19,578,000, and by the way it has no garage.
It looks like a decorator showcase. I don't mean that in a good way.
let one of the museums buy it. it's all setup for that.
Zillow doesn't know about the $40m worth of gold leaf. So you get a dollar hedge too. Zmart buy.
Of course, you can also rent it for $210K per month...
What the hell do you expect?
It's a P A L A C E.
How else are you going to decorate on that magnitude? Minimalist?
matt! good you're here. does that stuff look like originals/restored originals to you? because to me it looks like reproductions, and at times not even trying very hard to look good or true to period. only from the pics, of course.
Lucille wants to know if the furniture is more like Stickley, or more like Audi.
Alan, bite me.
Lucille, frankly I don't care whether they're originals or not. As well as they're well-built and aesthetically pleasing, who cares?
Purists will object. Anyway, they're going for the gaudy-over-the-top-Russian-oligarch crowd, so shoo! Unless you've robbed at least a billion dollars from Mother Russia, you are not welcome there.
Last sold for $6 million in 2005, suddenly it's worth $90M?
Why, exactly?
Is the bathroom by Faberge? Russians love that . . .
"Unless you've robbed at least a billion dollars from Mother Russia, you are not welcome there."
What if you're Henry Paulson and robbed a billion dollars from Mother America's Middle Class? Would that work?
It's worth more melted down than whole. A foundry in Queens maybe? The busts could be distributed to family for their front porches.

Sorry, no American robber baron need apply. You don't want to live too close to your victims, it's dangerous and unsettling. For Paulson, I'd recommend a $90 million villa on Cap d'Antibes.
