The old Con-Ed plant next to the UN, over 4000 apartments.
They've also started foundation work two blocks south (35/36th) on that empty square that will likely equal or be greater to neighboring Rivergate building with 700+ apartments.

This is great news. BEcause if we all know one thing Manhattan has a shortage of, it's a shortage of apts. for sale and rent.

I don't know of any of the huge variety, but there is the Durst 600 unit building on W57th in progress. And is the supertall moma tower biz or residential?

Of course, if we were socialists, they'd be building parking lots instead.

No idea, but with the recent Bloomberg announcement of upgrades to wateredge property, Im sure it's on the radar. The lot next to Rivergate was empty for at least 7 years.

btw, in case it wasn't clear, solow owns the remaining half lot at 36th street and the old ConEd site as well. a number of other smaller sites on the east side also.

the con ed site finally had approved plans when residents of the building across the street in Tudor City filed a lawsuit against the development. very shortly after lehman occurred. i'd guess it will be good to go within the next year or so. earlier plans included a school, it would be great if a middle school was built, although residents are always happier about new elementary schools.

in recent news solow's family tried to take control of his affairs but last i'd read he'd managed to regain power.

Why would Socialists want parking lots? Socialists think that everyoen should take mass transit.

it's an elementary school. interestingly two new elementary schools are being built in that area, i talked to garodnick's office about them months ago, i don't recall the numbers but the increase in seat capacity will be impressive. the area already has one good school, PS 116, and the new 59 should be fine. it seems to me as though this will become one of the safest areas (in terms of public school placement) for families to move.

yeah I imagine buyer of PH9 (22nd/23rd floor) will not be happy when those 60/70 story towers go up

Wow, aren't you an overactive grandmother. What happened to the parents? No good? Or just not up to your level of "grandmotherly experience"?

?????????????????????????????????????????????????

going back to the "big projects" topic, check this one out~ only 600 units but still i'd guess it's among the biggest within the 80/20 income restricted program

1500 permits were issues in 2010... that's not a whole lot less than the 2k at peak (2005)... and not all the permits get used right away.
