Discussion about
The bathtub faucet has a leak & the hot water handle is loose so to get any hot water I have to put a good amount of pressure on it and turn to get any hot water.. cold water handle, actual shower head, and all other parts of bathroom work perfectly.. how much to fix this?? can plumber fix externally or do i have to assume he has to break the shower wall open and re-tile with new fixtures..charging me the price of my corolla (s type mind you)?

a super or a handyman can do this. they unscrew/remove the handle, clean behind it and put a new washer in. that is what happens usually. if your issue is more then that, then new shower body and retile. once you know it's the later, put your corolla on cars.com ;)

by having it fixed, you'll save water and your gas sipping corolla.

i'd speak to the super, not the board or management.

Your maintenance doesn't cover stuff inside your apartment. If the building's run right the parts and the super's time will be charged back and added to next month's maintenance.

Part to fix this is less than 30 bucks at a hardware store. It's a DIY project really. Hope your S - type is stick shift.

its an automatic.. my friends make fun of me for driving an AUTO s-type..

i just laugh and say my parking cots more than their daughter's rental in bensonhurst.

thanks dwaazi ive seen that tutorial online it looks kind of complicated tho.. and unfortunately the previous owner caked on caulking (is that it?) on the outside of the fixtures which hardened so i might break a tile or 9 if i DYI

Caulking isn't diffecult to remove. Just chip away with it slowly. If it's silicone, take a razor to it. If it's white bathroom caulk, it's probably pliable and easy to chissel/chip away at it.

I fixed the said part in my parents house a few times. The actual part that's busted is probably 23 cents, but any contamination of the washer will create problems.

Don't try to force the water to 'shut off' by over tightening too much. That's something my sister would do. It's a mechanical device, not the hoover dam. G/L. Youtube probably has a video on how to fix it. My friend used to own a 5 speed S-type.
