I'd love to know more--about what BS you've heard as either a renter or a buyer...Recent article at www.NYCMatters.com
Translation: "I'd love to have you click on the link so I can get more hits on my blog."
The etiquette is pretty simple: If you think people who read this board will find your stuff interesting, POST THE CONTENT HERE.
It's fine to also provide a link to your site, so people who like the material you post here can go there to read more. But to post a link to your own article, without any content and without mentioning that it's a self-link, is just a way of stealing advertising space.
I agree with West81st completely, and would go one more step and say that the operators of this site most probably have not agreed to allow you to advertise here, so it's not only a monetary theft but a theft of access for promotional purposes -- possibly even trespassing.
Mine mine mine. My sandbox. My toys, my ball. My slide. My matchbox.
Only I am allowed to be a long time poster who turns re borker and make money from being 'honest' on SE. Mine mine mine
You know. I'm creating the 'w67' => the buyer's borker extraordinare persona.... First off I don't take clients, it's too Fking early to buy. Call me in 5 years. We'll talk.
W67: I think it's great when brokers come on this board to join the fray. The more the merrier. As you probably know, I recently got into a scrap with Columbiacounty, who thought I was too deferential to a Halstead broker who came on the board to discuss his own listing. I wish we had more of that.
HLBISE is doing the exact opposite. She's not adding anything to Streeteasy; she's just poaching page views.
@West 81st & @alanhart: It’s not about biz—picking-up clients: It’s about having fun with all of the crap we deal with in NYC and I want to WRITE about it—hopefully, write more about it, which is why I posted here.
Secondly, I can’t handle anymore clients than I already have (and this is NOT because I’m raking-it in via the Manhattan real estate beat—that’s for sure).
Read your article. Funny shitz. Butta, you too a client to a unit wo first looking at it? What r u a key Sherpa? Exactly wtf do you do as a borker if you dont save ex bankers like me time?
I can cook better than 95% of the meals I have outside, I don't Bc I don't have the time. You can write all day Bc you DON'T do your job as a borker. Back off on w81 and alanhart... Only I get to be an azz to ppl on SE. I have an exclusive with SE. I earned my grayness. Now run along and pre screen some apts.
Why not put your name (didn't see it other than in the articles) in the "about" section?
Don't see how Heather differs from Malcolm Carter and Ali.
I suggest linking only to blogspot.com, and then anyone who's actively looking for random NY real estate blogs will be sure to find it.
10023: Yes, very similar to Malcolm Carter, although the URLs he posts are quite obviously self-links. Ali is a different animal altogether, since she engages the board actively and seldom re-routes traffic to frontporchllc or dgneary.
Thank you, for your comments. I was hoping to gather--other more-fun experiences--from all of you, but I didn't. And no, my biz info will not be found on my blog--I keep it separate, like I said, it isn't about cashing-in on Gotham's big, fat, real-estate-cow. However, you all have taught this broker a new lesson, which of course, I'll write about, even though, it is not a topic I wanted to post.
am i missing something? this is a personal blog. nothing wrong with that, but why are you advertising it here?
" As you probably know, I recently got into a scrap with Columbiacounty"
sorry, but can someone please point me in the direction of the thread where yet another perfectly lovely person was forced to bitchslap columbiacounty for messing with them? thank you.

My boyfriend is in Joplin, volunteering.
He's a "thug"?!
Stick it up your smelly hole, slob.
what are you trying to say?
It has something to do with Truth's one big tit.
Lucille: There was no slapping involved. We disagreed strongly, but not violently. Besides, looking back at that thread, I think CC (and AR) may have won the argument.

HLBISE took our criticism rather hard:
"Today, because of a message board on Streeteasy.com (a site where I was grossly misinterpreted, due to my so-called advertisement of BS in REAL ESTATE post), I’ve decided I can’t do it, anymore. I just can’t and I don’t care if I drown in this nouveau-sea of self-propaganda. So, be it....
"I love my blog: it’s me—all odd-ball, quirky-self of me, and, outside of my domain, it’s free.
"Love or hate what I have to say, I’ve been throwing down words here, for years, and I’m proud of it, which is why I can no longer pimp-her-out, purposely or inadvertently, to surf in the sea…with all of you “commenter(s),” who are obviously, swimming—with wit, masterfully and most successfully. True real-estate-industry-experts, actually, more so than…me.
"So Brava, and Bravo, to all of you, for making me quit. Believe it or not, I’m relieved, now. I love my blog, too much; it matters, to me–and more than selling or even renting apartments in NYC."

Here's a link to the relevant blog post, offered in the hope that HLBISE will get a few hits and forgive us for trashing a newcomer.

I think SE started off on a more genteel tone back in the old days. Now, we're apt to jump on any new poster when it wouldn't have happened before.

report abuse reading over these posts and seeing the se regulars (inonada and ar are of course present) snipe at each other over what is essentially a personal choice on a crystal clear beautiful Memorial Day weekend affirms what an absolute bunch of self important and boring assholes all of you are. get a life. seriously.
Seriously, did a few negative comments really rattle her that hard?
I feel sorry for these 20-somethings, they've been "nurtured" their whole lives and can't handle any adversity. Her response should have been "you know, if you guys can't give me any good/funny/interesting comments, than go jump." Not "big meanies, I'll show them, I'll quit". What?
If she really wants to show us, she won't quit, she'll write an article about sniping, and trolling, and the weird world of the internet forum.
Now she's just looking for someone to say "poor little thing, we didn't mean it". But we did mean it, it was blatant self promotion.
The rarest, most precious thing in the world is an honest opinion. You take it, you use it, you learn and grow from it.
You don't quit just because the going gets tough.
Jim -- You go on the board, on a "crystal clear beautiful Memorial Day weekend" (if that's what you can call this celebration of global warming), to complain that others are posting on SE -- like you are. You really have a finely "honed" sense of irony, pal.
hey, midtowner, i was thinking the same thing. honesy, why were you posting so much? life getting you down? nothing to do? can't afford to buy?
btw, what's with your posting the same thing over and over even if it doesn't apply to the thread? could you possibly be a troll? "the troll"

What an idiot.
In 2003, I was invited to author a one-man blog on the web site of a local newspaper. (The topic was another of my side interests - not connected to real estate.) Shortly after launching, I went on the discussion board of the most popular site devoted to the topic, and asked the regulars to check out my new blog and provide feedback. They flamed me badly enough to send a smoke plume across the Hudson. The criticism stung, but the critics had a point. I apologized, and went on to pay my dues. Over time, many of the flamers became regular readers of my stuff, and several became friends In Real Life.
As needsadvice said - and it bears repeating: "The rarest, most precious thing in the world is an honest opinion."
West 81st: I’d like to thank you for showing some compassion--recently. So, thanks. I like you.
The Others: After reading all of the above(again), I probably should’ve been clearer; and I thought I was being considerate by not pasting 500+ words into the body of the thread, taking-up space on the SE server...As far as honesty, I expect it, always. And I always admit when I am wrong. I was wrong. I’m sorry.
Somewhereelse: I am…
PS. I'm pretty sure that I won’t be posting here anymore…you guys are just too tough for me—that’s kind of a compliment...
hlbise. Flmaozzzz. R images of $500million dancing in your head.
Hlbise, a borker who can't be bothered to pre screen a rental unit wants someone to offer $500mm for her blogs. Flmaozzzz. I'm sure your parents are proud of ya.
Hey, I've got a dog that flushes my toilet! Thatz gotta be worth at least $5 million. I'll sell it to you cheap, hlbise. For you $4.99mm.
When fktards stop making $100k/yr for housesitting.... Maybe I'll have hope that my kids will benefit from meritocracy.
Translation Translation: "I'd love to have you click on the link so I can get more hits on my blog."
I'm the police. I set the rules. I'm the only adult here. I will protect the children here from clicking on your link. And I will let all of the children know I am protecting them. Otherwise don't bother me. I'm trying to watch reruns of Donald Trump having pizza with Sarah Palin.
HLBISE: Don't let a little anonymous, cranky hazing get you down - especially if it came from me. As bgrfrank notes, there's no standard rulebook for Internet etiquette. Alanhart and I happen to be sticklers for disclosing self-links, but plenty of regular posters don't care. The site owners don't seem to mind much either.
For what it's worth, I've dug deeper into your site, and enjoyed much of the content. I think the article you originally linked was an unfortunate choice; the topic of broker-speak has been done to death, on this board and elsewhere. Your best material, IMO, is more personal and original. Of course, that's just one reader's view.
Good luck. I hope you will stick around.
